About me

There are times when life feels like an uphill struggle with too many hurdles to find a way forward.

You may be experiencing past or present difficulties with a relationship breakdown, work related issues, bereavement or abuse, and coping with feelings of loss, stress, anxiety, depression or hopelessness.

Talking to family and friends is an option, however, this might be a time when talking to an impartial other proves helpful.

If any of the above resonates with you then counselling may well be the way forward.

How can counselling help

  • Recognising and seeking support is the first step.
  • Counselling offers a safe and confidential space where you can speak freely and feel listened to without judgement.
  • It provides an environment for self-exploration which develops greater self-awareness in understanding you.
  • Choosing the right therapist is an important part of the process.

I am a Person Centred psychotherapeutic counsellor who can offer long and short term therapy.

The Person Centred model works on the belief that we possess the answers we seek. My role is to facilitate the exploration of your thoughts and feelings by working alongside you. The process aids clarity and reveals solutions that work best for you in your life.

First step

Taking the first step can feel daunting even a little scary. You are welcome to get in touch by email, text or phone, whichever feels comfortable. I can discuss any queries you have regarding the sessions or how I work.

An initial 30 min free consultation is also available. It provides an opportunity to establish if I'm the right counsellor for you with no obligation.

I practice from a dedicated counselling space within my home. You can expect a warm and caring welcome in a peaceful environment affording you the time and space to unpack and discover the best way forward in your life.

You are welcome to park on the driveway. There is also ample on street parking.

For over 20 years’ I have worked in a variety of community-based settings supporting adults, children and young people to affect change in their lives, always using a Person Centred approach. They may have experienced poor mental health, substance misuse, domestic and sexual violence, parenting difficulties and family breakdowns.

I have worked with a Rape Crisis Centre and also been as part of a team on the Truth Project - the Independent Inquiry into Child Sex Abuse.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
