About me

Hi, I'm Nina.

I offer remote therapy, that you can access from the comfort of your home or office, and at a time that suits your schedule and needs. This includes:

  • audio and video sessions for a more traditional experience
  • SMS if you prefer writing, but still want 'live' responses
  • email sessions, which can really help reduce sensory overload or demands, or provide better access to support, if you struggle with time or schedule management.

I have training and extensive experience working with areas relating to identity or belonging, including:

  • people of mixed culture or living a mixed culture life e.g. expat or immigrant life
  • suspected or diagnosed neurodivergence
  • gender, sexual or relationship diversity.

I also have lived experience, identifying as neurodiverse myself (currently undergoing assessment) from a highly neurodivergent family, and with fluidity and openness around sexual and relationship preferences.

If you have questions and would like to book a free introductory session, or you want to go straight to booking an initial therapy session with me, please get in touch via email at nina@ninekeys.co.uk.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have 20 years of experience within mental health and wellbeing. I have worked in a therapeutic setting since 2010, in private practice as a counsellor and Reiki healer, and as a volunteer and school counsellor for ARC Counselling in Wokingham, Berkshire. I have been based in Stockholm since 2021 and continue to work online with UK clients.

I hold a BSc in Psychology from Manchester University, specialising in the psychology of love, social communication via the Internet, and work-related stress. During this time I also obtained training and experience of working with neurodivergence - I also self identify as neurodivergent (currently undergoing assessment).

I am an accredited Gestalt Counsellor and trained at the Gestalt Centre in Old Street, London. I have obtained additional training and experience in:

  • Anger, leading to violence, depression or lack of direction
  • Gender, sexual and relationship diversity
  • Racial and cultural identity
  • Neurodivergence including ADHD, autism, dyslexia and giftedness
  • Women and mental health, including the impact and experience of menopause
  • Ways of working such as:
    • Email counselling
    • Online and telephone counselling
    • Outdoor/nature or ‘walk and talk’ therapy
    • Meditation, visualisation and mindfulness practices
    • Therapeutic writing such as journalling and freefall writing

Growing up as a child of mixed culture and of mixed religions, from a family with strong neurodivergent minds, my focus is on working with those who may struggle to find their place of belonging in the world, and strive to find a way to live a life where they can truly be themselves.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Because of my own cultural background I have a particular interest in the impact of difference, whether cultural, relating to faith and belief, or individual e.g. neurodiversity such as ASD, mental health problems, physical difference.

I work with what arises from feeling different or misunderstood, and the impact on life direction this can have. For example, when it leads to feelings of anger, anxiety, depression, helplessness or lack of purpose.

I also work with issues relating to life transition points, and their impact on relationships with self and others. These transitions might include:

  • Changing identity or life choices, for example:
    • Confusion around your gender or sexual identity
    • Becoming an adult
    • Marriage, pregnancy or becoming a parent
    • Coping with age-related changes, including menopause and andropause (‘male menopause’)
    • Relationship breakdown, including infidelity or jealousy
  • Coping with issues relating to start and end of life:
    • Conception and pregnancy
    • Dying and death
  • Loss of faith or uncertainty surrounding personal beliefs.

These transitions can result in existential crisis. This is where everything you once assumed or expected in life, has been lost. You may feel uncertain or afraid. You no longer feel able to predict or assure your future. You may be wondering, what is my purpose?
