About me

Hi and thanks so much for considering me as your Counsellor & Psychotherapist.  I offer online and face to face sessions (£50 per session) to anyone living within the UK (face to face sessions available to local people from within my own confidential practice in Balloch/Alexandria, near Loch Lomond - The MindZone Community Cabin)

I am a natural caring and friendly person first and foremost, and work from a Person Centred/Humanistic viewpoint but with a collaborative and integrative approach using other models of therapy if needed to provide you with the best possible experience - these models include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, CBT, Psychoanalysis and Attachment Theory amongst many others.  If you just need a safe, non judgemental and confidential space to offload your feelings and thoughts - please get in touch.

Having went through my own lived experience of mood disorder, depression (including postnatal), stress and anxiety, I not only understand how difficult things may be for you just now but I now hold the professional skillset and tools to help you move forward in life.

I achieved my accreditation with the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society and qualified to Degree Level, eventually achieving my Professional Diploma Level 5 in Psychotherapeutic Counselling Practice in December 2022.

Working together.

My initial aim is to help you feel less anxious, at ease, relaxed & comfortable enough to share your worries and empower you to become confident within your own ability to heal and overcome whatever difficulty is impacting your life at this present time.

The model of therapy used depends on what we assess as the most suitable for your difficulties and needs during your initial consultation appointment, and throughout your journey and process of healing, and reaching your mental health goals.

I will listen to you with non-judgment, I will truly hear, see, and help you identify your individual core belief system, emotions, automatic thought processes and behaviours, and together we can adjust these to move forward positively in your own life’s journey.

You have already taken a very brave step in looking for help and I would be honoured to be a part of your healing journey going forward, & help you overcome whatever is impacting you at this time.

If you can hold on and sail the wave which has been sent your way, I promise you can get through the stormy waters, and when you do, I promise you will feel more strength in your ability to cope more than ever.

Take care and hopefully hear from you soon, Mags@MindZone

Training, qualifications & experience

My trained method of working is very Person Centred/Humanistic with a Pluralistic, Integrative and Collaborative approach – I achieved my Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling Practice in December 2022. I am fully insured and have an extensive work and life experience.

My practice is fully compliant, quality assured and you can be safe in the knowledge that I am an ‘Accredited’ member of the NCPS who are fully approved and regulated by the Professional Standards Authority. I continue to undertake CPD weekly to enhance my study of skills practice, and am clinically supervised for 1.5 hours on a monthly basis.

After years of living what felt like a nightmare within my own mind, and not receiving the help I needed I decided to take action by embarking on my own learning journey to help myself - not only did I realise I had a passion for learning and research in this field but I very quickly found my own calling in life (as cheesy as that sounds!) My studies lasted over four long, and challenging years but I am very proud to be in a position now I am helping others from a personal but also on clinical and professional level.

I am competent in utilising different approaches and models of counselling and psychotherapy – including Person Centred, Humanistic, Directive, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), Psychoeducation, Psychodynamic, Relational, and various other models including Transactional Analysis and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy).

I  also have over 30 years of valuable work experience, within various sectors including Corporate, Commercial, Local Government as a Manager and prior to my counselling career, 10+ years of supporting young people aged 16+ overcome their difficult barriers to life and work.  In recent years I have provided counselling to individuals struggling to overcome anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, work related issues, and other problematic areas.  Since June 2023, I have also been undertaking part time work as a Youth Counsellor in Schools and NHS Youth Health Centres.

My qualifications include:

* Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Practice Level 5 (Scotland Qualification Framework: Degree Level SCQF 10 - UNESCO ISCED L.6) - Accredited;
* Online and Telephone Counselling SCQF Level 7;
* Diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy Level 4;
* Basic Counselling & Hypnotherapy (Cert. Hyp.CS)
* Leading First Aid for Mental Health ;
* ASIST Trained (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills)
* SQA Assessor Trained (Workplace Assessment using direct methods)
