About me

Hello my name is Lucy and I am a therapeutic person centered counsellor.

Thank you for taking time to read about counselling with me, this first step can feel hard but it is an initial very positive step you are taking.

Considering and moving towards having counselling can make us feel uneasy and nervous and this anxiety may hold us back from going ahead, but I truly hope to make the process of beginning and being in a counselling relationship a comfortable, safe and ultimately positive experience.

I chose to train to become a counsellor because I like people; I am a firm believer in the amazing power of positive interactions between people.  Unconditional empathetic care in counselling can give us the room to consider our worries and see new and healthier ways of coping, help us make sense of our past and move forward in a more positive way.

I am a warm and genuine person working in a very natural and intuitive way. My counselling approach is very much rooted in the person centered theory that, if we are able to speak and share without fear of judgement and with safety and empathy then we can gain a clearer understanding of ourselves, our challenges and this gives us the ability to thrive and live a happier life.

I am under no illusions of how challenging life can be for every single one of us at times, and this led me to work in the field of counselling.  Anxiety, stress, depression, relationship challenges, bullying, and grief are some of the reasons we may find ourselves seeking a listening ear.  None of us are immune to the feelings of judgement, opinions and pressures and I seek to enable my clients to feel able to relax and be themselves whilst working with me, this is time to care for the self, allowing time to be heard free of judgement.

Although my foundation approach is person centered my work is influenced by and includes other approaches such as CBT, Gestalt Theory and Transactional Analysis.  I am able to tailor my way of working to each individual client, after all we are all very different with differing needs, lives and experiences.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified Therapeutic Person Centered Counsellor.  I have experience of working with many differing presenting issues for clients such as anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, self esteem issues, trauma and abuse. I have worked as a bereavement counsellor for Sue Ryder Manorlands which means I have extensive experience of working with grief and loss.  I have undertaken further training in Trauma Informed Grief Counselling along with Pandemic Grief Training through the Portland Institute for Loss and Transition.  I have also worked as a mental health support worker for The Cellar Trust in Shipley and Mind in Bradford supporting people both during and in the aftermath of crisis.  I believe in everyone's potential to live a happier life through understanding ourselves and our life stories so far.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
