About me

I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist and counsellor, with fifteen years of experience working within the NHS, charity and private sectors.

I offer long-term as well as short term psychotherapy depending on your needs and wishes. You may want just a small number of sessions to think about what’s troubling you or perhaps you are considering longer-term therapy to better understand your issues, feelings and make some choices and lasting changes. The initial consultation will give us an opportunity to discuss related matters before deciding whether psychotherapy might be appropriate and helpful.

In my experience, individual psychotherapy can be exceptionally valuable for helping people with underlying feelings of depression or anxiety, difficulties with self-esteem, dissatisfaction in work or inability to form satisfactory intimate relationships. At other times it can help with specific issues such as eating disorders, obsessional behaviour, or phobic anxieties. Therapy can help individuals to come to terms with early life and family experiences, it can break the cycle of destructive behaviours, guide through one's losses and life changes as well as helping us to fully understand ourselves and why we act and feel the way we do. I believe that the more we know ourselves – the better lives we can live.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained at the Tavistock Centre and I am a member of Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists as well as a member of British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I am accredited by the British Psychoanalytical Council.

My experience includes working at the Counselling and Psychotherapy Department at Kings College Hospital where I provided counselling and psychotherapy for both inpatients and outpatients with medical illnesses, injuries and, sometimes, terminal diagnoses, such as cancer. I would also work with their relatives who were affected by trauma, loss and bereavement. I gained extensive and thorough experience working as part of the Adults Complex Needs Service and the Trauma Unit at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust, helping patients from various social and cultural backgrounds to manage a wide range of complex issues including anxiety, depression, self-harm, sexual abuse and trauma. I have also worked in several mental health charities, including, The Centre for Better Health Counselling Service and the Caris Islington Bereavement Service.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BPC
British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC)

The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.

BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
