About me

At Unstuck Therapy my goal is to help you break free of limiting patterns, ignite your inner strength & embrace positive change.

I am an Integrative Counsellor & Psychotherapist. I'm also a member of the BACP's Public Protection Committee, supporting it's work to protect the public from harm. I have 15+ years in a variety of roles, working in the voluntary sector, supporting the work of local authorities & social care, NHS & mental health teams, helping a variety of people to make changes in their lives.

As a therapist, I take a client-centered approach to working with you. That means I work collaboratively with you to create a supportive & nonjudgmental relationship to explore your thoughts and feelings. I believe that everyone has the capacity for growth & healing & I'm dedicated to walking alongside you on your journey toward this.

Working integratively, I combine a variety of evidence-based therapies; including mindfulness & cognitive behaviour therapies (CBT), psychodynamic & humanistic-existential therapies to find the right fit for you.

It can feel like a big and intimidating step, reaching out for therapy for the first time. So let me tell you a bit about what you can expect.

What to expect from therapy:

Once you've reached out we'll arrange some time for an initial 20-30min consultation. In that initial meeting, we'll start by discussing what you're finding difficult and how that affects you and the people around you. I'll talk to you a bit about therapy and how it might be able to help you.

You might have a clear idea about the concerns you're bringing, but you might just have a sense that something's wrong - I'm here for both and we can work through them together.

We can talk a bit more about the type of therapy that might be a good fit for you and for the difficulties you're experiencing and make a plan for working together; including how long we'll work together.

I welcome everyone, but I have a particular interest in working with underserved communities (such as BIPOC/BAME, LGBTQIA, or those disabled by society) in a cross-cultural & culturally competent manner; your experiences are unique & they matter.

I recognise that seeking help is a courageous step and there are barriers that make it harder to get support. Unstuck Therapy is primarily an online therapy service, providing flexibility to fit into your potentially busy life and more accessibility to those who can't get to physical spaces.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I work with a variety of concerns including but not limited to the following:

Anxiety - can be a warning to take notice & protect yourself but, unchecked, we can feel hijacked by worries, panic and fears that leave us trapped. Together we can learn the lessons hidden in your anxious thoughts, learn to tolerate & unhook from them enough to change how we respond to them.

Depression - is different for us all. it can be an all-consuming stuckness, a sickness of the soul that leaves us with low-mood, unfulfilled and desperately looking for meaning. Together we can sit in the trapped feelings, understand the role of depression in your life and make changes to find the fulfillment & meaning you're looking for.

Anger - Can be sign a sign we feel we need to take action or that a deeply held value or belief about the world, is under attack. Often we are taught that our anger is not valid, not allowed, it's ugly, must be suppressed and that it's not safe for people to see. Together we can create safety for you to express and release those feelings, to understand the message behind them and to decide together how to make satisfying change to the underlying need your anger is warning about.

Relationships - can be hard; we can crave the connection, safety & love we need in them, but equally can fear how they make us vulnerable and our potential to be hurt by them. Exploring your relationships together, we can understand the dynamics in them & meet our needs.

Grief/Loss/Bereavement - We experience so many losses in our life; from bereavement of our loved ones, to everyday changes & endings. Grief can feel confusing, painful and never-ending. Together we can unpack that loss, understand what it means, it's impact on you and, from that place, process our griefs & mourn the fullness of that experience.

Difference, diversity & belonging - We are all different, unique individuals. For some of us, our differences have led to us being on the outside & discriminated in society. These can be profoundly hurtful experiences that shape how we feel about & how freely we can be ourselves. Together, we can create a space where you can be your whole-self, process hurts & find belonging. With particular welcome to those from underserved and marginalised communities; including Black, Asian, minority ethnic (BAME) or Global Majority, BIPOC, LGBTQIA or LGBT+, Those who are Disabled by society or who identify as Neurodivergent (including ADHD or Autism).

Suicidal thoughts & feelings - Thoughts of suicide are often hidden & so badly understood in our society, when often they are a natural response to distress & overwhelm. Hopelessness can make us think that we want to end our lives, when really we want the pain we are in to end. Together, we can find ways to help you to find safety, stay safe and find new ways to address the pain you are in
