About me

Therapy is time set aside by you and the therapist to look at what has brought you to therapy. This might include talking about life events (past and present), feelings, emotions, relationships, ways of thinking and patterns of behaviour.

Unfortunately counselling isn’t a magic wand to fix things, though sometimes I wish it was, but it is an opportunity to talk to someone who is trained, in a confidential setting, about anything that is worrying or upsetting you. Resilience isn’t about never falling over. It’s about knowing what do to when we do fall over and how we get back up again. And very often to get back up we need to reach out for a helping hand.

I won’t judge you or criticise you.  I work with the uniqueness of each individual client and endeavour to offer a relationship in which you feel heard, accepted, safe and valued.  And collaboratively we will work to make positive changes in your life.

I do believe that things can get better and have had the privilege of seeing that happen in practice.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a BACP Accredited psychotherapist with over 10 years experience.  I work with adults and adolescents individually and also support couples and relationships.

Please visit my website to view my experience and qualifications: http://kayjuvilercounselling.com/about-me/

I have worked with a wide range of presenting issues including but not exclusive to: loss & bereavement, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, eating disorders, self-harm, addiction, surviving emotional, sexual and physical abuse, suicidal thoughts, sexuality and gender and identity.

It is essential to me to offer a space that is welcoming to all, that affirms the identities of my clients and is founded on fair and impartial treatment of all.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

For young people and parents looking for counselling for their teens:

For the last 5 years I have been the school counsellor at a High School in St Albans and I have had the privilege of working with the most amazing young people. I have also seen really painful struggles as young people grapple with a world and experiences that can, at times, feel utterly overwhelming.

If you or a loved one have something that is worrying you or getting you down, that is getting in the way of your life either at school or at home then I would love to see you. And I very much hope that I might be able to help.

Unfortunately counselling isn’t a magic wand to fix things, though sometimes I wish it was, but it is an opportunity to talk to someone who is trained, in a confidential setting, about anything that is worrying or upsetting you. We all deserve to feel confident, secure and valued. Talking to someone, whether that be to me in counselling or to a parent, a teacher you feel close to or to a trusted friend, can, I believe, help us begin to change the way we feel about ourselves and the way we behave towards others. And I guess one of the advantages in talking to a counsellor is that sometimes it can be useful talking to someone who is outside of your normal everyday community, someone who doesn’t already know lots about you and someone who you won’t be seeing every day. I won’t judge you or criticise you. I will try and understand how it feels to be you and through that understanding I work with you to make positive changes in your life.
