About me

In life it’s easy to find yourself at the bottom of the priority list. Talking to a professional provides you with a opportunity to attend to you and your needs. I can provide you with the time and space to do so safely, navigating through any worries or concerns you may wish to bring to therapy.

Hi and welcome to my page, My names Claire. I first began my experience of face-to-face client work over 15 years ago, as a clinical psychologist. Since retraining as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist, I have continued to develop my practise by becoming a counselling tutor, a qualified couples & relationship therapist, and a clinical supervisor.

I am a compassionate and down-to-earth person who has always been keen to connect with, understand and support individuals due to my passion in wanting to support the positive mental health and wellbeing of others.

In my previous role as a senior counsellor for a mental health organisation, I had the opportunity to work with a wide range of individuals and services, working within schools and adult services, in immigration centres, hospices as a bereavement grief and loss counsellor and supporting individuals with a wide range of complex trauma and mental health issues. Some of which include anxiety, stress and depression, low self-esteem, loss of identity, feeling worthlessness, loss of role or purpose, PTSD, abuse, self-harm, suicide ideation, and bereavement, including child loss.

Individual therapy

I offer both short & long-term counselling and psychotherapy, which can provide support during a difficult time to help you focus on deeper understanding of what’s happening in your life. You may be seeking help because of a painful life experience such as a conflict, loss or relationship difficulty. You may be experiencing feelings that you don’t understand or that feel overwhelming. You may notice that your physical health is being affected, or that you feel lost or stuck and feel that you may wish to explore these to gain a greater self-understanding.

A common misconception of counselling is that you must be at your worst to go see a counsellor. Counselling can be beneficial for a multitude of reasons, as well as positive changes in life, such as getting married, changing jobs, moving house or in with a partner, retiring. Counselling can support you with any change, and can  be extremely empowering to  talk through these emotions with someone qualified and trained to listen emphatically, without judgement.

Our sessions are an opportunity to talk through your experiences, to give you space and time to explore your feelings at your own pace and to help you recognise and make sense of your emotional patterns. I will aim to help you be more attentive to what’s happening in the moment, to recognise your own patterns and develop more satisfying ways of responding to yourself.

Couples/ Relationship therapy

I work with couples seeking to improve their relationship with one another. Couples counselling isn't about discovering who is right and who is wrong, it's about finding solutions and learning new skills. Couples counselling is about accepting differences, exploring intimacy issues, improving communication to meet an exchange of emotions and behaviours. You may have hit a crisis and find you are questioning parts of your relationship. A particular event or life change may have brought challenge into your space that is impacting how you connect. Relationship therapy can support you to work on patterns that keep surfacing between you and may help improve communication and intimacy within your relationship.

As your therapist I do not take sides, I will be focusing on your dynamics as a couple. Sessions are a safe space to explore questions and conversations that may have become too difficult to raise together, an opportunity to learn to manage conflict and difference in more satisfying ways, to help you reconnect with one another.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Online counselling has the benefit of being accessible from any quiet, secure space where you have access to a stable Wi-Fi connection. This means you can access counselling from the comfort and safety of your own home.

The benefits of online therapy have allowed people to look further afield than their own locality for support. Studies have shown that online therapy is as effective as face-to-face therapy and gives people a greater flexibility in their choice of therapy and therapist.
