About me

For over five years I have specialised working with young people & adults to understand the impacts of their complex family dynamics & childhood experiences. Some may be living through estrangement or relationship breakdowns which have impacted their mental wellbeing, and may be living alongside coping mechanisms that they are wanting to understand or alter. Often my clients also live alongside chronic health conditions (such as CFS / ME, chronic pain & POTS) which have been negatively impacted by their experiences and traumas. Working together, with compassion and patience, I can support you to build confidence and self-esteem, heal from these painful experiences, and find new ways to flourish.

The ways I work

·       Person-Centered – we will work collaboratively at your pace, looking at whatever is important to you in a safe, empathic way. You are the expert in yourself – our therapy will be free from unwanted advice or expectations, and instead will be compassionate and understanding.

·       Non-Pathologising - our therapeutic work together will explore ‘what happened to you?’, rather than ‘what is wrong with you?’. Our lived experiences impact our mental health, and making sense of this can bring us perspective and healing.

·       Humanistic –  the knowledge that you have a unique, subjective experience of the world. The belief that you are able to shape your own life and move towards your goals. Our work will be empowering and focussed around promoting your agency and autonomy.

About me

My name is Charlotte and I am a qualified therapist with 5 years’ experience. I am from a dual-heritage English & Indian background, & I grew up in a working-class family in Derby. I have lived experience of familial mental health difficulties, living in a single-parent home, & living within the benefits system. These aspects of my life influence my practice every day, which is why accessibility & equality are at the heart of my work.

I have benefited greatly from personal therapy, which inspired me to train in this field following many years working in social care and mental health. I am also an LGBTQIA+ & neurodivergence-friendly practitioner and person with lived experience in these areas.

I work from a beautiful and peaceful location in Kingston-on-Soar, a  lovely private office in Belper, or alternatively I can offer online or telephone sessions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
