About me

Hello and welcome.

I’m Angela an experienced Humanistic Counsellor working with individual Adults (18 and over).

People seek counselling support for many reasons. You may have a clear sense of what is troubling you or a more generalised feeling that life has lost it’s meaning, maybe you are feeling overwhelmed or stuck. I work with adults from all walks of life who are facing a broad range of challenges.

If you are looking for support, feeling alone, unhappy or anxious, counselling sessions can help. I offer a safe and caring confidential space, in a comfortable environment, so you can explore and gain an understanding of your situation whatever that may be. Counselling can help enhance your self-awareness and make sense of your thoughts and feelings.

I am able to draw from a variety of different approaches and theories including Person-centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis. As one size doesn’t fit all, my experience allows me to tailor your counselling sessions to your individual needs and unique life experiences. It’s important for me to acknowledge that you are the expert in your life.

Whatever you choose to bring I offer friendly, professional and ethical support.

You will have the space to explore any difficulties without being judged. I will actively listen as you talk, at a pace that suits you, so you feel heard and have the time to reflect. By gaining a clearer understanding of what you want in life new choices and possibilities often emerge through the counselling process. Then you are able to make the changes you choose going forward.

Although I have experience working with people from all walks of life and backgrounds it is important you feel that your counsellor is the right fit for you. Therefore I offer an initial free 30 minute phone call. You can then decide if you wish to book your first full session with me.

I work from a Therapy Cottage in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire and also from The Eaves Counselling and Psychology Ltd (website: www.theeaves.org.uk) in Guildford, Surrey.

What can I expect from the first session?

The aim of the first session is to give you an opportunity to meet with me and for us to decide if and how we can work together. It does not obligate you to attend further sessions. I will ask questions about what brings you to therapy and what you are hoping to get from it. I will explain how I work and discuss confidentiality, cancellations and fees with you. I will invite any questions you may have about my role, training and experience or about counselling in general.

You may need to take some time after the session to decide if you would like to book further sessions or we can arrange this straight away. The choice is yours.

I offer short and long-term counselling agreements. I primarily work in an open ended way and review with you how long you wish to continue.

I also have experience as a Counselling Lecturer so can offer counselling trainees help and support with personal development and any course personal therapy requirements.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
