Demystifying Counselling and Psychotherapy
By talking things over and making sense of life experiences individuals and couples can learn to understand themselves and make the changes you want in your life. Counselling and psychotherapy helps you to process:

  • What you do and why you do it. Through therapy you can revisit repeating patterns, break cycles of behaviour that are no longer helpful to you and live your life in control and empowered.
  • Through the therapeutic relationship you can unpick difficulties that feel stuck and free yourself to do something different.
  • Therapy offers you an opportunity to improve your mind and mood, piecing it all together.
  • Counselling is a process which can help you to identify the " if's, maybe's, could be's" reduce the feelings of "being out of control" and the symptoms of anxiety and guilt. leaving you feeling positive, free of these negative feelings and ready to embrace your life.

I use a combination of different therapeutic styles to suit your needs. For example, I use a blend of Transactional Analysis and Relate methodologies. This helps you to make sense of what you do and why you do it, enabling you to identify the changes you want to make, moving your life in a positive direction. Brief Focus Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy provide an alternative process where its problem solving strategies are focused in the “here and now.”

Equine assisted therapy is an alternative way of working in the unique and present space. Horses have a wonderful way of showing us how to behave in 'the now' and de-cluttering our thought processes. They are fabulous role models for the enquiring mind enabling you to find your own solutions using your own internal resources.

I aim to provide counselling and therapy to encourage people to feel good about themselves and to support them in making positive decisions for their future. Through a therapeutic relationship we can work together on issues that you choose to bring and work in a safe environment for change.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Clouds Counselling & Psychotherapy is based in a rural setting outside of Huddersfield and has been an established practice offering its services to the town and surrounding areas for since 1995. There is ample parking.

Telephone counselling, WhatsApp, or Zoom is offered so that sessions can be at a time and place where you feel most comfortable and won't be interrupted.

Coaching and Supervision

I host a variety of workshops throughout the year, including Shamanic drum journeying with the horses. Workshops and bespoke training available on request.

Equine & Animal Assisted Therapy:

“is about working with a psychotherapist and a therapeutic team of horses; it does not involve riding, or any previous experience of horsemanship”

As an Equine & Animal Assisted Therapist I know and understand my horses and animals very well and can read their body language and facial expressions. I am familiar with their patterns of behaviour and their likely stressors and normal stress responses.

I have the ability to observe and accurately interpret, assess and record my horse process.

With the horse I can help you reach an acceptance and peace within your entire mind and body.
