About me

My name is Shane, and I am a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor with an MBACP.

I run a private practice based in South London from South London Therapy Group in Peckham, the neighbouring Caya Therapy located in the same trading estate and at 119 Tunstall Road in Croydon for face-to-face sessions. I also offer online sessions via Zoom.

Starting therapy can be a huge step; stepping out into the unknown and exploring what is on your mind with someone you don’t know can be scary. How will it be? What do I bring? Will they judge me?

Whether this is your first time in therapy or you have decided to return, I am here to listen and support you.

I offer a safe, supportive, empathetic, and nonjudgmental space to work through whatever you bring. More importantly, it gives you a space to be open and be yourself without worry.

Therapy is a journey of emotional discovery, and it is a lot easier and more comfortable when you know you will be seen, heard, and listened to.

I believe that you know yourself better than anyone else. I see it as my job to help you uncover parts of you that may be lost, hidden, or not in your awareness.

I am a trained Gestalt Counsellor. Gestalt therapy takes the approach of helping you gain self-awareness of habitual patterns in your life and develop your self-awareness.

By developing awareness, you can understand how your thoughts and feelings influence your behaviours and relationships.

In addition to my private practice, I have worked in the emergency services and alongside local authority mental health services and other partner agencies.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a diploma in psychotherapeutic counselling and am a UKCP trainee member. I am currently working towards my accredited MSc qualification in Gestalt Psychotherapy. I am in my 5th year of training at Metanoia Institute and bound by BACP ethics.

For two years, I worked at Frontline Therapy, a therapy service that provides therapy for men and women from black and other minority backgrounds for many Issues. Before that, I worked for a year at Metanoia Counselling and Psychotherapy service.

Gestalt Therapy focuses on your present-moment experience. Things that have happened to you in your past affect you in the present, and we will explore this in session; in time, it will help you better understand yourself and raise your awareness about patterns of behaviour that may limit your relationships and day-to-day life.

By working together, we will explore your experiences, thoughts and feelings in the present moment getting you to focus on those experiences in the "here and now."

It is my job to help you recognise and understand how you may be avoiding certain aspects of yourself or your experiences by you to engage with your thoughts, emotions, and sensations fully. Doing so will give you insight into your patterns, make choices that align with your values, and help you experience personal growth and fulfilment.

To do this with you, I create a safe and supportive environment where you can explore and express yourself authentically without judgement.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
