About me

Why seek help?

Life can be challenging. We are not taught how to deal with life, with emotions or difficulties. The emphasis is always on our physical health, but we neglect our emotional health and mental well-being.

I believe in preventive counselling and psychotherapy; you don’t have to be at the end of your tether to seek a bit of guidance and to explore your options to go forward. Investing in therapy is investing in health.

When we break a leg we go to the doctor to help us heal; expecting to cure the leg ourselves is unrealistic. We could let it heal by itself but without the intervention of a doctor it may never heal properly and the damage could become irreversible. The mind and the heart are similar to the body and sometimes is better to seek help sooner rather than later.

In society we tend to underestimate the importance of our mental and emotional well-being. Without it we can barely live a fulfilling life, or we will barely LIVE. Full stop. We may just get by or survive, but you, and anyone, deserve more than that.

It is okay to seek help; coming to therapy doesn’t mean you are crazy or weak. It is time to break the old stereotypes about therapy and understand, what it really means, is that you recognise your limitations and have the courage to ask for help; to start a journey of healing and/or self improvement. It is not easy to be better than yesterday, but it is certainly worth it.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Individual Counselling:

I am trained in Pluralistic counselling. I integrate, always in collaboration with the client, different approaches, techniques and tools from other types of therapies to enhance therapeutic engagement, psycho-education and deeper exploration of issues.

TA, Psychodynamic and psychoanalytic therapies, CBT, creative or play therapies, mindfulness, CRM, solution or emotion focused therapies, gestalt therapy and narrative therapy are some examples of the approaches I can draw from to work effectively with a varying array of clients and their needs, learning styles and preferences.

I also believe in offering alternative options such as outdoors therapy or creative therapies as each individual may have different needs and not everyone is comfortable with the traditional talking-therapy setting. Additionally, in the near future, I will be introducing animal assisted therapy to the therapeutic options clients can chose from.

I offer therapy to counsellors and psychotherapists. Counselling and psychotherapy students can access this at a reduce fee.

Relationship Counselling:

I am trained in psychodynamic and systemic approaches to relationship counselling.  Infidelity, separation, divorce, intimacy and sexual issues, communication issues, power fights, differences and different disciplining styles are some of the issues I have experience working with couples and individuals.

Coaching:

I provide personal coaching for a variety of issues such as life blockages, existential crisis, fear of change, career change, stagnation, unhappiness, personal development, fears, etc.

Clinical Hypnotherapy:

I provide clinical hypnotherapy for weight loss, smoking cessation, phobias, confidence issues and a variety of issues. I also provide regression and progression hypnotherapy for spiritual growth, life blockages, recurrent life patterns, relationships, search of self and search of purpose.

Clinical supervision:

I am also a qualified clinical supervisor. I offer clinical supervision to counselling students and qualified counsellors.

  • My Approach

The base, or core, of all my work is person-centered as I put great emphasis on the therapeutic relationship, the core conditions and the belief that the client is the expert of themselves. These, I believe, are the key to successful therapy and it is independent of the therapeutic approach or technique(s) used.

I am a friendly, warm and genuine therapist that aims to truly connect to her clients to help them feel safe, accepted and unconditionally understood so they feel able to explore their deepest concerns and reach meaningful insights.

I can provide long-term in-depth counselling/psychotherapy to individuals and more focused short-term counselling to couples. Nevertheless, I will respect your pace and your journey and the amount of sessions you undertake will be entirely your decision as I believe you are the expert of yourself and I am simply a guide who empowers you to find the answers within and embrace your autonomy.

Getting Started: the Process of Starting Therapy with me.

If you are interested in starting therapy with me please send and email or text to set up a free 20-minuts consultation, with no obligation (picking up phone calls can be challenging for me due to work).

At the moment I rent a counselling room in Dundee. We will set a day and time and I will send you the address where we will meet.

During the consultation I will answer any questions you may have and you will have the chance to briefly outline what areas you need help with.

So you have the freedom to chose whether to start therapy or not, without feeling pressured, we won't set an appointment during the consultation. I will give you my business card and tell you to contact me when you are ready, if you would like to set a first appointment.

On the first appointment we will go over the therapeutic agreement and set your goals for therapy.

How many sessions you come for will be entirely up to you, although I may recommend the ending when I see you are ready to continue by yourself.

In regards to the frequency of sessions, I recommend us starting weekly to develop a strong therapeutic relationship. However, I will adapt to your needs and circumstances.

For any other questions, please do not hesitate to email me.
