About me

I am a experienced and intuitive counsellor, with a commitment to working reflectively with people who are experiencing any challenges impacting on their wellbeing.

My enthusiasm for the work I do is influenced by my personal and professional experience of the positive impact feeling heard and accepted can have on mental and emotional wellbeing. It is for this reason that I feel strongly about high quality therapeutic services being made as affordable and accessible as possible to everyone.

My Approach

Encountering the thoughts, feelings, emotions, and experiences that challenge us can be frightening, leaving us feeling uncertain and vulnerable. This can make the idea of coming to counselling feel daunting, with the thought of sharing things with someone you do not seeming strange.

I aim to ease these worries through offering a relaxed, warm, and safe space, creating an environment that allows a genuine human connection to be established.  This forms the core of my therapeutic approach, with the relationship between counsellor and client being at the heart of the process.  Communicating in an open and accepting relationship allows a place for you to be honest and engage in meaningful conversation, giving freedom to express yourself freely.

From here we can work together to consider the best tools and approaches to help understand things further. When doing this I work in an integrative way, bringing different aspects of therapeutic approaches together to meet your individual needs. Doing this allows the unique way in which we all experiences things to be appreciated, offering options for effectively dealing with things, helping you to make positive changes and feel more content and fulfilled.

How can Counselling help?

Many things we encounter in life can impact on our mental and emotional wellbeing, influencing the way we think and feel about ourselves, others, and the world.  This can raise tough questions and present difficult choices, creating feelings of discomfort, uncertainty, and isolation.

Often the expectations and pressures of everyday life can make acknowledging these thoughts and feelings seem confusing and overwhelming. Possibly finding the time and space to acknowledge how you’re feeling is difficult.  Maybe you are thinking that you should not feel the way you do. Perhaps it’s hard to know what is causing you to feel as you do, which may feel frustrating.

These thoughts and feelings can influence our behavior and possibly lead to actions and decisions that concern us. This often causes further unhappiness and results in experiencing other challenging emotions, that can leave us feeling bad about ourselves. Maybe you feel uneasy about the choices you’re making and are struggling with your self-esteem and confidence. Perhaps this is causing you to feel deflated and stuck, leaving you struggling to see a positive way forward.

Counselling offers the time and space to connect with all parts of yourself and acknowledge what is bothering you. There is nothing too trivial if it is troubling you then it is important. Responding to what is going on in your life in this way can help give greater awareness of yourself and your needs. This allows greater awareness of the choices you have, which can help identify effective ways of coping with challenges, enhancing your wellbeing and quality of life.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
