About me

For twenty-five years I worked in music, journalism, design, television and in the digital world. My own experiences with counselling and therapy led to my change of career.

There are many reasons why you might be looking for talking therapy. Often the same problems crop up over and over, even if they’ve been tackled before. These patterns are rarely random and I believe that an exploration of their causes can show the way to positive and long-lasting change.

You may not even know what’s wrong, just that something doesn’t feel right, and that you want to look at it.

Perhaps you feel you have no-one you can talk to about these feelings, or that the people close to you wouldn’t understand or be able to help. My professional training, therapeutic and life experience means I am able to offer you an impartial ear, the ability to examine issues from a fresh angle and a calm, neutral and non-judgemental environment.

Training, qualifications & experience

My core training is in Transactional Analysis (TA) and I hold a postgraduate diploma in TA Psychotherapeutic Counselling from Metanoia Institute.

I am in private practice which I run from my home, I have also worked with NHS clients and at a mental health charity and at a research clinic.

As part of my continuing professional development I regularly attend specialist training and workshops to enhance and update my practice.

Alongside my client work, I am on the committee of the Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists in North London (ACPNL) and served for five years as chair. I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and the National Council of Integrative Psychotherapists (NCIP) and an accredited member of the National Counselling Society (NCS).

I also belong to The Relational School – a community of psychotherapists and counsellors who are dedicated to broadening their understanding of the dynamics of the therapeutic relationship.

Like the majority of therapists, I am in regular professional supervision and strictly adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework which supports the importance I give to safety, confidentiality, respect and equality.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

My practice is rooted in the humanistic and relational traditions. A humanistic approach emphasises my belief in the intrinsic worth of every human being, and our natural tendency to self-fulfilment, choice and change.

The relational approach underlines the relationship between client and therapist as central to the therapeutic work and focuses on connectedness to others. I believe that in order for a person to be emotionally healthy, they must maintain fulfilling and satisfying relationships with those around them. My client and I work together to forge a strong, uplifting and secure relationship that can serve as a model for future relationships the client will strive to develop.
