I'm an experienced psychotherapist offering a supportive, confidential and non-judgmental space for you to explore and work through issues. Im an experienced practitioner also providing services within a CAMHS setting and having experience of a range of mental health and behavioural problems.
You may wish to explore relationship difficulties, sexual or gender issue, bereavement, abuse, trauma, anxiety, depression, stress, eating disorders, family issues or addiction. You may also make changes to your life so you can achieve much more. I work collaboratively and creatively with you to do this. In family work I have extensive experience in Autism; diagnosis and post diagnosis support.
Sessions are usually 50 minutes, though some clients prefer 80 minutes. The therapeutic work is open ended, meaning an end date is not set at the beginning, though sometimes it can be more beneficial to create different patterns. We decide these things together.
Working with my clients is very important to me. I aim to be gentle, non-judgemental and empathic. It is important to me to make my clients feel safe, comfortable, listened to and appreciated. Client feedback emphasises my warm humane approach and that they feel relieved that for the first time they have been able to talk about things that had been locked away for many years and the shame and embarrassment they feared just seemed to fade away.
I work in London, the Isle of Wight, and in Hampshire. Working with individuals, couples and families is built around CBT and family therapy. CBT is science based and crucially approved by NICE [The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence which provides national guidance and advice to improve health and social care] and unlike many other models it has been shown to work. I have also developed a range of insights and methods that have developed the model. Family Therapy is also a NICE recognised and approved therapy.
My expertise enables me to work with a wide range of problems, - Anxiety, Depression, Relationship difficulties, Sex and gender and a range of other behavioural & relationship and mental health difficulties.
Confidentiality - the therapeutic space remains private. I will not discuss with anyone else what is discussed between client and myself. There are important exceptions around the idea of Safeguarding and these will be discussed between us.
I am very experienced with a wide range of mental health and relationship problems which include: sexual abuse, (perhaps suffered in childhood), substance and alcohol misuse, anxiety and depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Bipolar disorder, (also known as manic depression), self-harm, OCD, gender and sexuality, bereavement.
I also specialise in issues related to children: - bullying at school, ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Asperger’s Spectrum Disorder. I am able to offer ASC/ASD diagnosis and follow up support
With an additional 20 plus years of professional experience in research and university work and family law means I am very well placed to help those involved with the family courts and can provide psychological reports where required
