About me

Hello!

My name is Jinny Gupta (UKCP registered) and I am a psychotherapist with a private practice in London. I offer therapy to adults, online and in-person in Chiswick, W4 and Earls Court/Kensington, SW5. I offer both short and open-ended therapy. I work in English, Hindi, Urdu, and some Icelandic.

You may find my approach particularly effective if you've been feeling stuck for a while. This may have to do with issues related to low mood or feelings of irritation, depression, anxiety, relationship with food or body image, self-esteem, people pleasing tendencies, procrastination, bullying, feeling lost in relationship or work.

During our initial sessions, we will delve deeply into the issues that are troubling you, and create a plan for addressing them in a way that helps you get your life back. Most of my clients see a gradual lifting of symptoms shortly after starting therapy, and a sustained improvement in their well-being thereafter.

Having been in long-term psychotherapy myself, I can understand why it is important to find a therapist/counsellor you can trust and feel safe with. It is, therefore, extremely important to the success of our work that you feel comfortable working with me. For that reason, I offer a free introductory call where you have an opportunity to consider if I may be the right therapist for you. If that captures your interest, please see details below in setting up an intro session.

Training, qualifications & experience

Training and my way of working

I completed my training at Regent's University, London and hold an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy (ADIP). I also have a Master's in Economic Development and Policy Analysis from the University of Nottingham.

My work is informed by Gestalt, Jungian, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Buddhist approaches, with a focus on what is currently most relevant for you (but not discounting the past). I use mindfulness and compassion as the main approaches to help you develop your awareness and make more skilful choices.

My clients have benefitted enormously from my approach which values their deepest sensitivity and longing as a unique individual in the world, whilst fully appreciating the practical limitations of therapy - both in terms of time and financial resources. This is particularly true for individuals from creative backgrounds (film, television, writers, musicians, performance artists etc.).

Other areas of professional interest

In addition to private practice, I work at an Eating Disorder (ED) service in Central London where I provide clinical support to individuals who are in recovery or those who are starting to notice that their relationship with food is taking up most of their attention in their lives.

I also supervise individual and groups of trainee psychotherapists at Headstrong Counselling (HSC) in London.

I am trained as a Mindfulness & Meditation teacher, and work with individuals and groups wishing to begin or deepen their existing meditation practice, in a trauma informed/sensitive way. As a speaker and facilitator, I have been hosting workshops and talks in this area, particularly exploring the rich intersection of mindfulness and psychotherapy.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Positive outcomes that people see as a result of engaging in this work

Through our work together, you may acquire the skills and capabilities to navigate your life better, and become more resilient by:

  • increasing overall awareness of yourself and how you interact with others, making more choices available to you;
  • strengthening emotion regulation skills so you are better able to take care of yourself, especially during challenging situations;
  • taking steps towards building genuine self-esteem;
  • living life more in accordance with your values, in a more authentic way;
  • recognising and asserting your personal boundaries so you're able to be more open and available in relationships and at work;
  • bringing ‘shadow’ material to your awareness so you are less triggered in day-to-day life, feeling more accepting of yourself;
  • strengthening your mindfulness and compassion muscle in order to become your own greatest ally and friend, whilst cultivating greater empathy towards others;
  • integrating psychedelic or meditation insights and experiences in your day-to-day life.

My clients have benefitted enormously from my approach which values their deepest sensitivity and longing as a unique individual in the world, whilst fully appreciating the practical limitations of therapy - both in terms of time and financial resources.

As a result of our work together, majority of my clients report being more in touch with their intuition. They have found this to be a helpful navigational tool through challenging and unknown situations.
