About me

Hello, I’m Jess.

I am a compassion-focused counsellor specialising in anxiety, low self-esteem and stress for adults and teens.

There are times in life when things can feel overwhelming and the skills we used before to cope may not work anymore. Counselling with me can help you navigate these stressful times, learn to manage your anxiety and build your self-compassion and self-awareness.

I believe every individual has the potential for growth, and change and to create a fulfilling life. However, life’s difficulties can make this more challenging. Together we can explore past and present issues impacting your current well-being.

How Counselling can help

Opening up to someone, let alone a stranger can feel really daunting. So often we push away our feelings and worries, trying to do everything we can ourselves to feel better. But when we keep our problems hidden from others, it can feel like it is becoming bigger and bigger.

Counselling can help you in many ways but it gives you the space to stop that problem from becoming bigger and bigger. By voicing what is going on for you, it becomes easier to see solutions.

  • Learn how to identify your emotions and discover what triggers you.
  • Understand how your past may be impacting your present.
  • Build stronger, healthier relationships and develop your trust in others.
  • Create a better work/life balance and feel more confident setting boundaries.
  • Make decisions without second-guessing yourself.
  • Handle stressful situations with ease and become better able to respond to stress.

What Counselling With Me Looks Like - My Approach

My unique way of working combines person-centred theories that value you as the expert in your life, mind, and body connection and psychoeducational evidence-based techniques from a compassionate lens.

You are a whole person whose thoughts, feelings and physical experiences are all connected. I will help you to develop your self-awareness to understand and process what has happened to you.

I offer both short-term and longer-term therapy and I understand how difficult it can be to balance your commitments, life and self-care. That is why I take a flexible approach to counselling. Sessions with me last 60 minutes and I offer a range of session times to fit in with your schedule.

What to expect from your first session

It can be hard to know who to choose when you're faced with so many counsellors in a directory. Here is a brief look at what you could expect from counselling with me.

By sending me an enquiry or email, you can book an initial 20-minute call which will allow you to get a feel of what it's like to work with me. (Nothing worse than finding your counsellor's voice annoying!)

After this initial call, if you decide you would like to work with me then we will set up our first session. Currently, I am offering face-to-face sessions in the Pickering and online sessions.

Our first session will allow you the space to tell me why you're reaching out for counselling and what you would like to achieve from counselling. We will then work together, session by session to achieve this.

Please send me an email at therapywithjess@outlook.com or submit an enquiry form to take that first step.

If you're still unsure, that is okay. I also have a website which you can check out (www.therapywithjess.co.uk) and an Instagram page (@therapywithjesseden) where you can always reach out at a later date.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have extensive experience working with Anxiety in both adults and teenagers. (Social anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, panic disorder, panic attacks, stress, self-esteem and self-confidence).

People often come to counselling because they feel stuck, and caught in a repeating pattern. With anxiety it can be being stuck in those feelings of panic, avoiding them and then the anxiety returning. This can feel exhausting and I want to help you step out of this pattern, understand what is going on for you and respond to your anxiety in new, different ways.

Using evidence-based approaches, psychoeducational and self-compassion, I will work with you to understand your anxiety without it taking over.
