About me

Hi, my name is Jamie (she/her) and I am the therapist and owner of  Lucent Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am a person-centred therapist offering talk therapy both in person and online via video call.

Working in a person-centred way means I value and respect the uniqueness of each person. I aim to offer a warm and confidential space in which you can explore your thoughts and feelings, whether that’s healing past pains or working through present difficulties.

I offer a welcoming, safe, and non-judgemental space in which you can explore whatever it is you choose to bring to your sessions. I won’t direct you or diagnose you, but I will try and help you to achieve more insight into yourself, finding your voice and personal power.

I aim to provide counselling which respects the variety of human experiences and cultures. I hope any client I am working with will feel they can bring their whole self into their sessions. Therefore, I endeavour to be:

  • LGBTQ+ Inclusive
  • Anti-Racist
  • Disability Aware
  • Anti-Fatphobic (Health at Every Size)
  • Sex Positive

The search for the right therapist can be overwhelming. Perhaps you’ve already read multiple profiles trying to find the therapist you click with. So, if any of my profile resonates with you and you feel at a point in life where you would like to reach out for support then please get in touch.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a first class degree in Person-Centred Counselling & Psychotherapy and have worked as a counselling therapist for various charities across the Southampton area. My role within these organisations was to provide short to long term, one to one talk therapy for an array of clients.

This has given me a depth of experience in areas such as gender identity, sexuality, relationship diversity, anger, abuse, depression, anxiety, childhood, adolescent and adult trauma, low self esteem, managing boundaries, as well as working to de-stigmatise and understand holistically the diagnosis of borderline personality disorder.

In order to enhance my therapeutic practice I am committed to continuous professional development and have gained further certificates in the below areas:

  • Working with Clients Who Feel Stuck
  • The Pleasing to Fawning Continuum when
    Relationships are Threatening
  • Helping Clients with Insomnia
  • Exploring Trauma from a Person-Centred Perspective
  • Recognise and Adjust for Neurodivergence in Your Practice
  • Relational Trauma, PCA, & Neurodivergence
  • Queer Experiencing, Trauma and Person-Centred Therapy

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
