About me

Hi, I'm Jack.

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to look at my profile.

I understand that at times life can be overwhelming and painful, and that we may adopt coping strategies that may exacerbate this pain further. I offer an open, compassionate space to pick apart and hold these complex experiences, and offer a path forward to take the client from a place of crisis/overwhelm to a place of self-understanding, self-compassion and peace of mind.

I understand that when looking for a therapist the client has a wealth of choice. So, what makes me different? First and foremost, I am an incredibly kind, compassionate and straight-talking therapist. I come from a working-class background and I will not hide behind buzzwords or bog you down with clinical language. Instead, I endeavour to offer you a space to simply be you, to be vulnerable and to be seen and heard as a fellow human being.

I have extensive experience working with a range of mental health conditions and wellbeing issues. These include depression, anxiety, stress, panic attacks, PTSD, CPTSD, trauma, anger, relationship issues, addictions, OCD, chronic pain, long term health related issues, ME/CFS, bereavement, break up/divorce trauma, affairs and relational betrayals, self-esteem issues, abuse, suicidal thoughts and ideation, loneliness and discrimination. I also place a great deal of emphasis on how one area of trauma/crisis interplays with others and has a knock-on effect.

I have over 20 years’ experience of working with addicts in active recovery and have a wealth of knowledge of clients looking to explore addictive behaviour in their lives. I have worked within the NHS in adult mental health and have first-hand experience of the complexities of mental health and how best to deal with mental health crisis and overwhelm.

I work as a psychodynamic, psychotherapeutic counsellor working online only at present.

The way I work incorporates psychodynamic talking therapy with compassion focused therapy. I am a believer that every client is unique and comes with their own personal story. I aim to allow you to tell that story, and identify the areas which are causing distress and anxiety. I look at subconscious processes and in an equal collaboration with you, try and work out why you may be stuck in the various non serving patterns you find yourself in at the time of entering therapy.

I look forward to working with you, and I believe passionately that the answers to your issues lie within you, and that with time and compassion these answers can be found, and healing can, and will happen.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

I also offer 50 minute online sessions via video link.

I offer a free, no obligation 20 minute online first session to all clients.  This session will establish the areas you wish to work on, and also give me a chance to talk a little more about the way I work. I will explain the concept of contracting; this involves a mutual commitment between us regarding session times, payments and how as a professional I conduct myself.

I understand that our first session may be nerve-racking for you, and I commit to making this experience as compassionate, kind and welcoming as possible.
