About me

Hi, my name is Holly, and I am an Integrative Counsellor with a specialist interest in working in the areas of sexual abuse, trauma and identity. An example of clients that I may see at my practice, but are not limited to, are survivors who have experienced any form of sexual violence, their loved ones, sex workers and those impacted by sexually intrusive thoughts, images or compulsions. I also work with clients who have experienced various types of trauma, who have challenges with or are looking to explore different aspects of their identity.

As your therapist, I will be present. I will show up. I will be alongside you in your therapeutic journey and support you in the self-belief that you can reclaim your story, attune to your true inner voice and not only survive; but thrive. Due to the focus of my therapy, occasionally I may work with clients with sexually harmful behaviours. I believe that offering an opportunity for these individuals to work through shame and stigma could be a preventative step in reducing sexual violence within our society.

Many circumstances can lead us to engage in therapy. Let’s face it, there is no manual out there on how to best navigate the challenges that life can throw at us. Whatever has led you here, I recognise how daunting these steps to seek out a therapist can be, so I would first like to take a moment to acknowledge your courage.

I’m sure you have many questions. An initial wonder you may have is - ‘what can a therapist offer to help me in this time of need?’ Great question. In my practice, I aim to offer you a safe, open and inclusive space where you can come as your authentic self and have the freedom to explore your deepest thoughts at a pace that suits you. A space where you can show your tears, anger, joy or any other emotion you may feel the need to express. The opportunity to develop a counselling relationship where you feel held. A relationship that is warm, trusting with the right amount of humour when needed. Somewhere you can be met with compassion and kindness. Not only will you be listened to, but you will also be heard.

As mentioned above, I work integratively which means I use a range of counselling techniques; adapting my practice to your individual needs. At the core of my approach is the humanistic model which looks at a person as a whole (physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually etc.) There is a focus on self-discovery, personal development and activating your full potential through applying empathy, genuineness and non-judgement. Working through a lens that is culturally and socially informed is also essential to my professional and personal ethos.

I believe that only YOU are the expert on your experience, therefore, I will encourage you to feel empowered in taking the lead in sessions, whilst still working collaboratively, and maintaining a transparent and respectful relationship. I view therapy as an environment where both therapist and client can meet on a human level. Like to get creative? Enjoy mindfulness? Prefer structure and goals? Let me know! Personalising sessions to ensure you are getting the most out of your therapy is of high priority to me. I feel it is important to set your expectations upfront by stating that our sessions will not be somewhere you come to for advice or to have decisions made for you. However, this will be a place where you can come as you are, ready to engage and to give it a go.

I currently work with adults on a one-to-one basis and offer sessions in person, over the phone, online or outdoors. Sessions are open-ended so you can decide how many you would like, with no expectations. We can regularly check in and review this during our time working together.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Foundation Degree in Counselling (Fda) and I continue to regularly engage in Continued Professional Development (CPD) to further my knowledge and understanding of client's various needs in therapy - with a current focus on trauma, sex and relationships and diversity and inclusion.

Outside of private practice, I have been working as a therapist since 2022 for a local charity, supporting the BAME community with their mental health and wellbeing needs. This has given me a rich experience in providing counselling to a diversity of clients and I advocate for inclusive and accessible therapy.

My areas of experience are mental health challenges including depression, anxiety and OCD, domestic, racial and sexual abuse, self-harm, suicidal ideation, disordered eating, identity issues, self-worth, trauma, bereavement and loss, work, relationship and family issues.

If there is another topic that you would like to bring to therapy that is not listed here, please reach out to me using my contact details and I’d be happy to chat this through with you.
