About me

Hi, I'm Helen an experienced person-centred counsellor specialising in working with clients' who have experienced trauma.  The impact of trauma can be debilitating and all consuming, with many clients' presenting with a vast array of symptoms like flash backs, panic attacks, dissociation, nightmares and mental health conditions like PTSD, personality disorders, OCD, depression and anxiety.

Sadly, 1 in 4 of us will experience poor mental health in our lifetime.  However, the future of counselling is looking bright, with more and more people seeking counselling.  Therapy can empower you to take control of your own mental health needs so that they no longer control you.

I can offer a confidential, safe and non-judgemental space for you to explore any issue that may be worrying you, from difficulties in your relationship, career, bereavement, confidence, poor sleep, self-harm, suicidal thoughts or even trauma through sexual violence.  My kind, gentle and empathetic nature will help support you every step of the way as you navigate your way through the counselling journey, be that short or long term, depending on your personal requirements and circumstances.

Client testimonial

"I had counselling with Helen and she was remarkable.  Through Helen`s professionalism I am now much stronger and self-aware.  I disclosed things to her that I have never told anyone, and I am stronger and able to live a happy life.  Helen made me aware of self-care, trauma stabilization, which really made me think about why and how I would react in certain situations.  I never thought counselling would work for me but through Helen`s perseverance and patience I cannot put into words the life changing difference it has made to me.  Thank you Helen."

I am fully insured and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (MBACP Registration no: 392266), consistently working to their ethical guidelines to help keep you safe.  In particular, with trauma it is important that we work with a phased-approach in mind, looking at grounding techniques and stabilisation before any kind of trauma processing takes place.  Clients` often say that this takes the pressure off having to disclose their personal history too soon.  I will be guided by you, with gentle challenge and exploration from me.

So if you feel ready to take the next step towards your own healing, exploring your inner-self and achieving personal growth, please get in touch via email, text or call.  I promise you it might be the best thing you ever do.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
