About me

We are all people with a unique set of life experiences that have created who we are; people with stories, desires, relationships and feelings. Life has the ability to shape us. However, it is my belief that we are all unset clay and we have the power to reshape ourselves.

MY APPROACH AND HOW I WORK.

I take an Integrative, relational approach to therapy, underpinned by both Psychodynamic and Humanistic theory. All this means is that I believe that the relationship with your therapist is the most important aspect of counselling, and the one that truly makes the difference.

It is my role to offer a space to develop trust, somewhere you can safely talk about the things that have led you here and to be an active guide through your journey. At times the work between us may feel difficult or challenging. It can be confronting to experience something new or different that is not often present in our real lives. It can also be freeing and exciting to discover aspects of our internal selves and things that have remained hidden to us.

COUNSELLING AND THE REASONS YOU MAY HAVE ARRIVED HERE.

Taking the step to open yourself up to therapy is always a courageous one. It’s possible you aren’t sure what counselling is or whether it can help you and this can make reaching out even more daunting.

There are many different reasons why people come to therapy; maybe you feel anxious or low, there may be confusion around your identity, what you're doing and where you're going, maybe you're repeating harmful patterns and behaviours, maybe old wounds and traumas have resurfaced, something has happened that has hurt you, you feel different or unconfident, you're struggling with relationships, your sexuality or you've been in therapy before, know what it's about and have found support and growth in it.

You may know exactly why you want to come to therapy or you may have no idea. There is no right or wrong. Whatever your reason for reaching out, together, we can explore what's going on for you.

........and really, at its very beginning, therapy is just sitting in a private room with a person you can see yourself building enough trust with.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked in a variety of private therapeutic and clinical settings including GP practices, low cost therapy services and charities. Some such work has been with a charity called Care for the Carers who offer free therapy to those who are carers for others.

Having also worked within a local IAPT service I understand the limitations of what the NHS can currently provide in terms of mental health support and the difficulties of short term interventions that are not able to integrate our wholeness.

QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

BA (Hons) First Class in Integrative Relational Counselling

Level 3 in Counselling Studies – CPTA

Level 2 in Counselling Studies – CPTA

Gabor Mate’s Compassionate Inquiry in Action: An Experiential Course for the Healing of Deep Traumatic Wounds - PESI

I am particularly interested in how we perceive trauma, how it impact us and the relationship we have with ourselves and others as a result. I continue to undertake various trainings some of which are underpinned by the teachings of Bessel Van Der Kolk and Gabor Mate who both speak to the way in which trauma can continue to be embodied within us and how we can find hope on the other side.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

Based on my experiences and training I personally feel that in order for therapy to truly work you must feel safe and connected with your therapist and therefore I acknowledge that I may not be the right fit for everyone.

With this in mind, I offer a free introductory call prior to meeting for an assessment in person. I hope that by doing this you can get a feel for what it might be like working with me and bring any questions or concerns about the processes that you may have.

Additionally, I have a number of reduced cost spaces for those on a low income or who are unemployed. Access to therapy should not be a privilege and I feel passionate about being able offer concessionary rates where possible.

Sessions are 50 minutes long and normally take place weekly.
