About me

Brilliant Green Therapy is my therapy practice in South Wales and takes its name and inspiration from the brilliant green dragonfly. The dragonfly is a powerful and timeless symbol of transformation, a time of awakening, change and self-realisation which I liken to the process of therapy. I have gained significant experience by working with clients to uncover and heal old wounds, to manage the uncertainty of the present situation through developing coping and resiliency skills and to envision and embrace a vision of the future.

'The traffic in the distance hums of work and toil,

The whistle of the bird finding worms in the soil,

And then there's you,

And then there's you.

Some people walk in the cracks, some people slip through,

Where did you stand when you had the best view?

So take a moment now and settle in the seat,

And let's review your life and your moment of defeat.

You can tell your story and show me how to see,

What stops you reaching your goals and dreams and how you learned to be?

And I will slowly guide you, back to feeling good,

And praise and encourage you and show you that you could,

Be the person you were years ago and maybe something more,

Because my job is to listen and simply help unlock that door.'

From 'Lifescripts' by John Mill

Training, qualifications & experience

My qualifications include a degree in law, diplomas in counselling, creative and developmental play, supervision and a certificate in hypnotherapy.

I gained my diploma in counselling in 2002 and have been a practitioner since that date. My particular experience has been gained by working with children and young adults in schools and in the community, with adults with substance misuse issues and with survivors of domestic and sexual abuse/violence.

I have managed three counselling projects including teams of volunteer and paid counsellors in South Wales from 2002 until the present day.

I have been a clinical supervisor for individuals and groups since 2014.

I have provided training as an employee and private practitioner since 2002. Training to date has included working with grief and loss, self harm, trauma and PTSD, legal issues in counselling including pre trial therapy and working with sandtray.

Member organisations

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accessibility

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

Supervision

I gained my diploma in supervision in 2015 and I have been providing individual and group supervision since that date.  My supervision model of choice is the cyclical model of supervision which provides structure within the session whilst also allowing the supervisee the space to consider hypotheses, link theory to practice, consider ethical and good practice issues and to process the impact of client material in a safe setting.
