About me

Hello, my name is Deborah, I am a qualified Person-Centred Counsellor and I provide therapy to those above the age of 18. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their ethical framework.

The therapeutic relationship between you and your counsellor

One of the most important aspect is the efficacy of your counselling sessions is the relationship you have with your counsellor. The goal is to develop a trusting relationship with your counsellor so that you may confide in them about your feelings. As a trained counsellor, I will listen with empathy and openness to whatever you may share, and I have professional experience assisting clients with their difficulties. I'm not here to judge you or push you to take a specific action. Instead, the purpose of a counselling is to assist you in developing a better understanding/knowledge of yourself and others so that you may make constructive choices/decisions for yourself.

Beginning Counselling

It is natural to be unsure or apprehensive about seeking support. The first appointment is a chance for us to meet and discuss if counselling may be beneficial to you. There is no commitment to continue working together at this point.

If you wish to continue, we will agree on regular days and times to attend sessions. The development of regular sessions is critical in order to assist and accelerate the therapeutic process. Individuals may feel that maintaining frequent sessions provides them with a sense of support and consistency when working together with their problems/issues.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified Person-Centred counsellor.

I have worked with a diverse range of problems/issues when working as a volunteer counsellor at the Family Hub.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
