About us
At Cynefin Therapy, we can offer you an opportunity to gain perspective on your experiences by matching you with the right therapist and supporting you to find your path forward in life.
Cynefin Therapy is an affordable open-ended counselling service supporting people experiencing emotional and psychological difficulties. We work with adults (18+) who struggle with feelings of anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, low self-confidence, bereavement, stress, loneliness and anger (to name a few) by helping them to discover healthier ways of relating to their emotions. And from October 2024, we will also offer affordable psychosexual and relationship therapy (online only). We believe that everyone should be able to see a counsellor when they need to and that sessions should be accessible and affordable.
Cynefin Therapy was founded in 2023 by a small team of professional and qualified therapists whose mission it was to make counselling more accessible and affordable to everyone. Whether you are facing day to day challenges or would like to work through past experiences that continue to affect you now, we respect and honour difference and diversity, and will provide you with a safe and non-judgemental space as we journey with you towards wholeness.
Counselling sessions are provided by student therapists on a weekly, open-ended basis. This means that our clients benefit from working with therapists in the final stages of training, who are highly motivated and thoroughly supported through their professional development.
Training, qualifications & experience
Our counsellors come from a diverse range of backgrounds and life experiences. They are from integrative, person centred, humanistic, gestalt and psychodynamic theoretical approaches and can integrate different approaches to suit each client.
In addition to completing their studies, our therapists attend professional development workshops at Cynefin, receive clinical supervision and regularly review their work with the practice manager.
All of our counsellors are student members of the BACP and as a practice we adhere to the BACP Ethical Code of Practice.
Member organisations *
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
