About me

I am an Integrative Counsellor, which means I use different models of Counselling.  This can include CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and Person Centred Therapy.  I am Client led which means I work with what is most important for you and I will use what I believe will be the most effective approach.  I have many years of Counselling and Supervision experience. This has been gained by working in a variety of professional settings, which has enabled me to gain a great depth of knowledge. I have worked with Clients of all ages, backgrounds and beliefs. I have supported people with a wide and varying range of issues.  I have provided the tools to enable them to find a more satisfying, fulfilling and (they have told me), a happier life!

Anxiety or Depression
These conditions are extremely common.  It doesn't mean that you are a weak person, if you have been diagnosed with either of these things.  It really is a strength, to approach a Professional (such as myself) and discover how I can enable you to gain greater insight, into the feelings and behaviour which you are experiencing.  You really are the expert on you, and maybe, "you've just taken your eye off the ball".
At times, life can seem impossible to cope with, in fact, completely overwhelming. You may have experienced difficulties, which you have been ignoring and suppressing, for what may seem like forever.  Month after month, year after year, you have been dealing with these issues in the same way... and you can't see any improvement. You now realise you need to do something different, to change your life. Perhaps you have reached a crossroads in your life, and you cannot seem to choose the best road to take, to enable you to be happy again.  Come along and meet me and decide whether you would like me to be part of your "support network".

Bereavement
Have you experienced a bereavement or loss?  It can be a sad, lonely, overwhelming time of your life.  Why not approach me, to enable you to gain a little more clarity.  Or engage with my Services, to shine a light on a different way of thinking, gain some perspective from a Professional's point of views".

Bullying
Are you being bullied? Whatever the setting i.e. work, school/college or University (etc), this kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable, and shouldn't be tolerated. You owe it to yourself, to be kinder to "you".

Decisions
Should you carry on working in a job which provides little, or no job satisfaction?  Do you feel that you always make the wrong decision?  Could you change your approach, and stop repeating "the same", unhealthy behaviours?

Relationships
Should you stay in an unhappy, or abusive relationship?  Has your partner betrayed you?  Has your husband or wife had "ANOTHER" affair, after promising faithfully, that they wouldn't do it again?  Infidelity, is an extremely difficult issue to "deal" with. You are not alone.

Working with me, could prove extremely beneficial.  By providing time and space in a hectic life, exploring emotions and the feelings, which you are experiencing.  Maybe you've never shared your "story" or life experience before?  Has your relationship been affected by the death of a child.  The bereavement could obviously have been experienced, during pregnancy, infancy or beyond.  Please seek some Professional help.
Whether you decide to see me together as a couple, or individually, I believe I can help you to find the best way forwards.

Whilst you may have friends or family to turn to for support, they will try and help you in certain ways. Friends may take you shopping for "Retail Therapy".   Family may invite you for a family meal, buy you drinks etc, to cheer you up. However, you realise that this is just a temporary 'fix', and this behaviour, isn't really helping you to 'untangle your head'.  You need to 'get to the root of the problem', even if it is scary, being listened to can be extremely valuable.

Do you feel that wherever you turn, you just aren't receiving  support?  By seeking the help of a Professional Counsellor, who has nothing to gain or lose, from whatever decision you make, if any.  This could be the best thing you've done for a long time. I can appreciate, that it can be extremely daunting speaking to a stranger for the first time. However, by making that first step and contacting me, I will try and put your mind at ease and reassure you as best I can.  We can explore your difficulties in the safe space of my Counselling room. I can support you and listen to whatever you wish to share with me,  It is the opportunity for you to be heard, and validated, maybe for the first time ever, or what may feel like years.  I can guide you through different strategies and techniques to help you to overcome your problems. By providing you with these techniques, it will enable you to adopt a more helpful and healthy thought process.  Although I won't tell you what to do, my ambition would be, to encourage you to have a more positive attitude, which can be challenging.  However, ultimately, this will enable you to find the way forwards, in your life.  Building confidence, and striving to gain a happier and more fulfilling way of life....

Cost of Counselling

Are you trying to 'weigh-up' whether you can afford to come for Counselling? Some things worth considering are, you can pay £100's, if not £1000's, for a Mechanic to fix a problem, or  service your vehicle to keep it on the road.

How many fancy coffees do you treat yourself to in a month? £40 as a minimum, can pay for a trip to the hairdressers or £40 buys some 'gel' fingernails.  Although these things are lovely, but unfortunately, you're still left struggling with your anxieties, your depression, or your feelings of just not being able to cope with your life anymore. Whether you've thought of it this way or not, you are the most important person in your life - if you don't look after yourself, who will? This then affects your ability to look after other members of your family and friends.  What price is worth paying for you, for your mental health?  Surely, it's a price worth paying?  It's time to look after you and not stay at the bottom of the list.

NHS

It can be extremely frustrating to be on a waiting list, without hope of seeing an NHS Therapist "any time soon".  Being put on Anti-Depressant medication and asked to wait to be seen.  Many Clients wait patiently, only to be offered an appointment 12 months after their original referral.  Usually, NHS Therapists, can only see Patients for 6 sessions.  For some people this is sufficient, but for others, this is not even "touching the Tip of the iceberg".  Unfortunately, the NHS is struggling to support Patients with Mental Health Issues, which is really disappointing.  So, please make the first move and contact me, what have you got to lose.

We can explore together, what you need to discuss with a Professional.  Then you can see whether I'm the right Therapist for you.  You can also discover whether you feel you can learn to trust me.  Let's arrange a convenient appointment, and take it from there.

FEEDBACK:

One of my Clients recently told me, "I wish I'd come for Counselling years ago!"  One of my Clients who has just finished her Counselling sessions, advised me that her progress in achieving her goals set during her first session, was "totally a result of Counselling" and also described the Counselling she'd received from me, as "brilliant".  Another Client told me, "You've been fantastic, I can't believe how much better I feel!"  This week, one of my Clients described me as being "real, Claire you don't just sit there nodding your head how I imagined a Counsellor would be!"  So, please pluck up the courage, take the plunge and contact me - what have you got to lose?  I believe you've got a whole lot to gain!

Certificate in Person Centred Counselling
Fundamentals in Gestalt Counselling
Couples Counselling

I regularly update my professional development, by attending courses and workshops.
I try to provide the best possible service to my Clients.  This includes seeing a Supervisor monthly and discussing my cases with that person.  It enables me to continue to provide you with a "safe" supportive environment.  This is carried out as effectively as possible.  It also ensures my practice meets current legislation.

COUNSELLING EXPERIENCE:
My many years experience of Counselling and Supervision, have been gained by working within my own private practice and at GP Surgeries in Shropshire and North Wales.

CHRONIC PAIN:
Additionally, I have worked for a private "Pain Management Clinic", supporting NHS patients, to cope more successfully with Chronic Pain.  I have seen patients who are struggling to live with many different health conditions.  These include different types of Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, ME, MS and many more health conditions.  Living daily with chronic pain, is extremely difficult to deal with (to put it politely), and from my vast experience, a high percentage of people slide into depression as a result.  Many people experience a loss of mobility,(which can be experienced by individuals of all ages). This significantly affects their life on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis.  This in turn, can "tip people over the edge".  I have successfully worked with people who experience suicidal thoughts, because of the "impossible situation", they believe their life to be.  I have helped them to "turn their lives around", my Clients tell me. I have also supported chronic pain sufferers, who experience a loss of self esteem and confidence.  Together, we re-build their self esteem and enable them to "get back on track" and look forward to a brighter future, instead of being "stuck in the past".  Clients  constantly compare themselves to the person they used to be.  They have experienced Members of their own family, or indeed, friends and do this too.  Are you one of these people suffering?  Please don't continue to suffer, contact me and we can have an informal chat about what you are going through.

SUPERVISION
I believe it is essential to work with a Supervisor, who you feel you can be open and truthful with. Talking openly about your Clients/casework is absolutely crucial within a supervisory relationship.  I feel I am an approachable and "easy to talk to" Supervisor.  I can provide you with the necessary support and Professional Relationship, you need to reach your true potential as an Individual Counsellor or Health Professional.

Additionally, I offer reduced fees for Student Practitioners.

Please contact me to discuss what your requirements are, by 'phone or email.  We can then arrange a SKYPE/zoom or Google meet or telephone appointment if required.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
