About me

Hello! My name is Claire and I am a friendly, experienced, welcoming Counsellor based in Mirfield,  available to clients over 16, wherever you may be via face to face, Teams or phone!

I offer a safe space  for you and about you, where you are the expert in yourself and where we work together to help you make the changes you decide on. You can come and talk about whatever you want to without fear of judgement or rejection and it's ok to feel anxious, scared, or anything else. I am here to listen to you and help you find the person you truly are.

Counselling is hard and it is a brave thing to make that first contact, I know because I have been through it myself as a client. We can have an initial assessment session by phone for 30 minutes to see if I am the  for right counsellor for you. There is no obligation or expectation at that assessment.

If you decide you want to go ahead I can offer short or long-term counselling, a single session or a fixed number of sessions.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Diploma in Higher Education in Counselling using a 'Person-centred approach'. This can be a really useful approach for clients as you take the lead and I see you as the expert in yourself. We work together in a very open, organic non-directive way with you identifying your own goals. I don't tell you what to do or give advice but I help shed light on what you might 'know' and are experiencing but might be struggling to make sense of. I work with clients age 16 and over only. I am not trained/qualified to work with children.

I am experienced in counselling clients who bring a variety of issues including; divorce, bereavement, anxiety, depression, domestic abuse, traumatic experiences, sexuality, long term and end of life health conditions and career issues.

I am also a qualified nurse with a Masters in health and social care and have worked for the NHS for 25 years. I have worked with patients and professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds and differences, and I have many years' experience of working with people living with complex medical conditions and clients have really appreciated this additional in-depth understanding.

As a serving public sector worker, I also realise the unique challenges we face professionally, especially over the last few years. I also know it can be preferable to seek support outside of the sector you work for. I can support you totally independent to your work setting.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
