About me

Are you seeking freedom from persistent anxiety, worry, fear, rumination, stress, panic, sadness, anger, depression, confusion…? Hi, I'm Amy. Welcome to my corner of Counselling Directory and to Freedom Counselling. Below you will find out a bit about my approach to therapy, which is all centred around helping you find freedom to live the life you want - even if you aren't sure what that life might look like.

Please do reach out to ask any questions.

Freedom. One word, many meanings…

Maybe you are seeking freedom from unhealthy anxiety, persistent self-doubt, low self-esteem or lack of confidence? Overwhelming emotions, low mood, painful family issues or toxic relationships?

Perhaps freedom feels very far away right now.

As an integrative counsellor, I draw on a range of therapeutic skills to offer empathic, non-judgmental counselling, tailored to you. Importantly, I give you space to be yourself, and find yourself.

From relationship breakdowns to big life choices, past trauma or current pain, navigating the path to freedom is different for everyone but there is no need to walk it alone.

Who do I work with?

I work with adults over the age of 18. My clients are varied and encompass different backgrounds, experiences, values and needs.

Everyone is different. Even where there is similarity, there is always a difference.

My work is focused on you as an individual, without assumptions or stereotypes. I work from a trauma-informed perspective, which enables me to help you explore difficult aspects of experience safely, with empathy and understanding.

Inclusive freedom

I am inclusive in my approach, welcoming of all gender identities, LGBTQ+ and neurodiversity (including HSP - Highly Sensitive Person). I provide a non-judgemental environment that is sexuality, kink and non-monogamy/polyamory positive.

I provide a safe, non-judgemental space where you are heard, as you - whatever your background or life experience.

I will not judge you. I will not tell you what to do or offer advice.

You are the expert on your own life. With my therapeutic skills, experience and empathy, we will empower you to access and enhance your inner expert.

Together we will uncover what has brought you to where you are, where you want to get to and how that might happen.

Specialisms

I work with a range of common life obstacles and mental health challenges - from bereavement to anxiety, low mood and low self-confidence to depression, OCD and panic attacks.

I am currently training and specialising in supporting survivors of domestic abuse - which includes those who have suffered emotional abuse, coercive control and physical/sexual violence.

However, these kinds of experiences are not limited to romantic relationships.

Most people have experienced relational issues in their lives, whether with family, friends, colleagues or loved-ones. These experiences can shape us in many different ways and cause pain and confusion. I believe that by exploring relational difficulties we can understand ourselves better, form healthy relationships and find freedom and joy in our lives with others.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
