About me

About me and my therapy practice:

I am a person-centred counsellor, in that I accept you and empathise without judgement to build trust and honesty in a therapeutic environment. I am also holistic so I adjust therapy to each individuals presentation such as spiritual, trauma, ethnicity, etc. In a 50 minute session, we explore your emotions at your own pace. I am sensitive to your values and needs and I work at your pace and priorities. Any  emotional pain, guilt, shame and blame impedes personal growth and the fullness of life. So I support for you to explore and reduce any negative infuences that are holding you back from your full potential and enable therapeutic healing.

Adult Therapy

I am passionate about helping people to move forward with their lives and gain emotional stability. I counsel individuals from different cultures, lifestyles, with faith or none so I connect and relate to what is important to you and your values. The testimonials from adults during my work with NHS GP surgeries hopefully speak for themselves. ‘Incredibly helpful and I feel like a new person and so much happier’ (CG), ‘Excellent, 100% positive impact’ (JS), ‘My children have never seen me so happy’( TB), ‘Theresa is easy to talk to, very kind as well’ (SP), ‘Not like any other counsellor I have seen in the past’ (DL), ‘Theresa was very effective, great listener and helpful, great energy’ (JF), ‘Out of the darkness and into the light’ (JB), ‘You have made me smile, my heart feel warm and helped me to process some of my tangled thoughts (JF).

Child Therapy

I am trained in child therapy and support children in dealing with emotional issues such as parental attachment, separation, suicidal ideation, self-harm, divorce, bullying, low self-esteem, identity, anxiety, meltdowns, withdrawn behaviour, bereavement and life transitions such as school changes. I utilise art and play therapy to build trust and to develop a therapeutic relationship that enables younger children to express themselves. It has been life changing to see transforming positive change in the children that I have counselled.

Children’s testimonies: ‘Thank you for your help with the bullies. I can’t thank you enough for all the things you have done. You have made all of my anger and sadness go away. You are the person I trust and I want you to know you are part of my family.’ (Aged 10).

‘I am going to mis you so mutch. I will never foget you. Im going to play games nely the same wiv you.’(Aged 5- as originally written).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

My first session

Our first 50 minute session is to establish your presenting problems and ensure that we are happy to work together on these issues. We can explore areas of your life that are causing you emotional distress and we can look at what you expect from counselling and how best to move forward. This session will also establish our contract and essential information for future sessions. I will explain how therapy works for optimum results to meet your needs.

My practice is person centred which means that I work with your outlook on life in a non-judgemental way. I also integrate useful tools according to individual preferences and needs which have proven to bring therapy on immensely. I have seen people recover in 1-5 sessions regularly. Sometimes it is difficult for someone to explain their situation and how they became so distressed so the techniques I use help to unravel the rubix cube puzzle in people’s emotional turmoil which led to that anxiety and distress. This may include childhood history, self image and identity amongst a raft of other things as you are all made so unique and interesting.  My fees are £60.00 per session.
