About us

The Lorem is a confidential, safe, and non-judgemental space providing counselling and psychotherapy services throughout Herts, Beds and Bucks to individual adults, couples, young people and groups.

Working from our private consulting rooms in the centre of Tring, we offer a private, comfortable and relaxed place where you can feel safe and comfortable to share and explore your feelings.

We are a team of highly regarded qualified counsellors and student counsellors in their final year offering integrative counselling and psychotherapy.

The Lorem offers a high-quality service which is reflected by the ongoing referrals received from recommendations and the ongoing contracts we hold with other agencies, social services, fostering agencies, local authorities and secondary schools.

At the Lorem we believe we are all unique individuals with different needs and by having the flexibility to access different approaches we can work with what best suits you.

Our counsellors work using different approaches, combining elements of Person-Centred Therapy; which focuses on an individual’s self-worth and values and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT); which focuses on thoughts, emotions, physical feelings and actions, teaching clients how each one can have an effect on the other. CBT is useful for dealing with a number of issues, including depression, anxiety and phobias, Transactional Analysis; which focuses on the theory that we each have three ego states: Parent, adult and child. By recognising ego-states, TA attempts to identify how we communicate, and how this can be changed. And Psychodynamic Therapy; which focuses on difficulties arising from early childhood that remain unresolved.

In a safe environment, we would look at your early childhood and help you to express feelings and thoughts that have not been released before, which have resulted in dysfunctional behavioural patterns and relationships.

You may be experiencing relationship issues, anxiety, stress, depression or just feeling stuck. Our counsellors can support you to address these issues and help you move forward.

We offer short or long term counselling, depending on your needs. Some people come for counselling and find they can resolve their issues within 6, 8 or 10 weeks and some find they need longer once they begin to work through their difficulties. There is no limit, just a process to fit your needs.

Taking that first step to accessing counselling can be difficult. Our counsellors are passionate about supporting clients, offering a relationship that is built on trust, respect, and autonomy.

Therefore, we offer a free initial telephone call with one of our qualified counsellors to establish your needs and to aid in matching you with the right counsellor for you.

We have supported adults and young people with attachment disorders, relationship issues, loss and bereavement, anxiety, social anxiety, bullying, gender identity, depression, anger, abuse, self-harm, suicidal ideation, domestic abuse and trauma.

We specialise in supporting adults and young people with high functioning autism (Aspergers) and their families.
We hold support groups for both families and young people with autism. Please contact us for details.

Member organisations *

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.
