About me

I initially qualified as a person-centred experiential psychotherapist/counsellor BA (Hons).  Since then I have integrated other modalities into my therapeutic work such as EMDR, CBT, Walking Therapy and I am a qualified Clay Therapist.  I work mainly in private practice and for the NHS.  I have many years experience of work with people who have experienced CSA, sexual violence and domestic violence.

I am passionate about my work and helping people.  I work with clients who have experienced loss of family members due to COVID-19, injury from a car accident, loss of a family member to suicide, work related stress from an accident or incident at work.  I have experience of counselling front line workers - police officers, nurses, fire fighters and ambulance staff in terms of their work experiences, witnessing trauma which can impact on their lives outside of work which may lead to symptoms such as PTSD.  I offer the psychoeducation you need to help you understand your symptoms, this is evidenced based therapy that is recommended by NICE for PTSD, general anxiety disorders and depression.

I believe each of us have the capacity to grow to reach our true potential. What can influence or inhibit our positive growth? Our life experiences are affected by childhood events, our relationships with parents, siblings, other family members, friendships, work etc. Our soil can be contaminated by others in our lives when we have experienced childhood trauma, grief, loss, shame and witnessing violence or being in abusive relationships and other experiences such as life and death situations. These experiences influence us as we grow up, our emotions, our beliefs, our thoughts and our behaviours. This can make us feel depressed, anxious, derailed and scared.  Your trauma may have occurred recently or many years ago, but the deep wounds still feel fresh to your soul. You may have flashbacks and nightmares following your trauma experience and intrusive thoughts.  Thankfully, there are treatments available that will significantly improve your quality of life; we just need to find the right therapy for you and your circumstances.

I work with clients who have been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorders, Emotionally Unstable Personalities, ADHD and Asperger Syndrome.  I have experience working with women from other ethnic backgrounds whom have been trafficked and women who have experienced FGM.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a graduate from Edge Hill University a Person-Centred Experiential Counsellor/ Psychotherapist BA (Hons). I am a Europe Accredited Practitioner in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, qualified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).  I am a trained Clay Therapist.  I work for the NHS with patients who have Neuromylitis Optica Spectrum Disorder.  I previously worked in private healthcare sector in Pain Management for 7 years.    I have supervision from a very experienced supervisor whom helps me develop my practice. Contact me today to find out which therapy would work for you. As empirical research suggests, the therapeutic relationship is so important therefore you feeling comfortable with me, being able to talk openly, freely and feeling safe is an essential part of our working together.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
