About me

I believe the therapeutic relationship is all-important for a person seeking to develop personal insight and self-acceptance. I aim to offer a safe, reflective space in which to explore and expand an understanding of self and relationships, working towards self-fulfilment, self esteem and freedom from anxiety.

People come into psychotherapy with a variety of issues and emotional difficulties that they may have struggled with for some time. Taking the step to seek help is often a scary one and comes at a stage when they feel they have nowhere else to turn or do not wish to burden family and friends. Finding a therapist with whom you feel comfortable and safe is important and the first couple of sessions are an opportunity to find out whether you can work together and whether you feel understood. Having a safe and non-judgmental space to talk about yourself, in confidence, can be a healing experience in itself.

For many this can mean working through painful emotions like shame, guilt, self-doubt, whose roots may lay in early childhood experiences or difficult family dynamics. Over time, psychotherapy can help identify the obstacles that are preventing you from changing and moving on. Unconscious patterns of relating, to ourselves and to others, get established early on in our lives and then get repeated over and over again, often with painful consequences, until we can make them conscious and become empowered to make healthier choices.

I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist with fifteen years experience of working in both private practice and public sector settings. These include NHS and business organisations, further and higher education, local authorities and working with GP practices. I offer counselling and psychotherapy to individuals and couples at my practice in Highgate.
