About me
You're here because you are looking for something in your life to be different. This could be the way you feel / think about yourself, your relationships with others, and / or your world. It can be difficult to know where to turn and sometimes you can feel very alone, struggling to open up to those around you for fear of being burdensome, not understood or accepted.
Therapy is an empowering process, supporting you to become more aware of and connect with yourself. Through it you'll reframe past wounds, identify and prioritise your needs, enhancing the feeling of security within yourself and your connections with others.
I am trained to support you in a warm and attuned way to make sense of your experiences and mind. Together we can explore the aspects of your life causing you dissatisfaction and distress, discover patterns, understand and treat yourself with greater depth and care, shift the dynamics in your relationships, and look at where positive change can assist movement towards a more liveable life.
This is one of my favourite explanations for therapy and how / why it works: www.goodtherapy.org/blog/how-psychotherapy-retrains-brain-to-expect-feel-better-0605175
It's worth acknowledging that you've taken a massive step by searching for a counsellor, which can be a daunting process. Feel free to get in contact to book in an initial consultation (please check your spam folders for my reply) and we can get started improving your quality of life and well-being. I look forward to hearing from you.
Warmly,
Rae Moss (MA, PGDip, DipEd, BA - MBACP)

Training, qualifications & experience
I have been supporting clients in counselling settings since 2012, with a broad range of presenting issues (such as anxiety, depression, self-esteem, confidence, identity, LGBTQ+, relationships, bereavement, trauma). I've been in private practice since 2018, originally started in Manchester and now in the Scottish Highlands. I work remotely with clients across the globe.
I find particular value in delving into the unconscious and uncovering schemas (mental frameworks to organise experiences and knowledge) which have and continue to shape much of a person's life. Making the unconscious conscious creates staggering shifts in cognitive and emotional well-being. I am also interested in Neuroscience and the ways in which our neurological makeup influences people psychologically.
I have a special interest in working with Neurodivergent clients, including Autistic, AuDHD and ADHD / Kinetic people. Therapy includes normalising ways of processing the world, investigating and neutralising the internal dialogue that speaks to being 'flawed' or 'broken', validating grief, accommodating sensory needs and celebrating special interests. I've worked with clients in various stages, including questioning / contemplating their neurotype, self-identifying, seeking assessment, during and post-diagnosis.

Theoretical basis: Integrative
Practicing from an Integrative model of psychotherapy means I’ve received training through numerous modalities and am continuously diversifying the way I can work with clients. This means that I adapt my practice to the unique needs of each client, facilitating a warm and accepting space for you to talk freely about whatever is going on for you, alongside providing strategies and psychoeducation, looking at patterns of actions and thoughts, guidance around how your history may have influenced unconscious processes and patterns, and understanding how you respond to events within your personal world and in relation to others.
Some of the areas I have trained in include: the Egan Model (Skilled Helper), Psychodynamic, Person-Centred, Transactional Analysis (TA), Polyvagal Theory, the Developmental Model, and the Trauma Rewind technique.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Getting started
Shortly after your initial contact I will respond to arrange a telephone consultation, which will last approximately 15 minutes. This is to get more detail about what you’re wanting to explore in therapy and answer any questions you may have. If working together feels like a good fit, from there we can make arrangements for our first session.
Each session lasts for 50 minutes, and we can continue working together for as long as feels helpful.
Please check your spam folder for my reply as they don't always make it into main inboxes. Alternatively, feel free to contact me directly at rae@highlandcounselling.com.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Warm wishes,
Rae
