About me

Individuals - Couples - Groups - Counselling and Psychotherapy-Clinical Supervision

Hello, I am Paolo Imbalzano - counsellor, psychotherapist and clinical supervisor - and I welcome you to my website.

I offer counselling, psychotherapy, and clinical supervision (to counsellors and psychotherapists, in training or qualified) in a safe, secure, non-judgmental, confidential, and compassionate environment.

My counselling and psychotherapy clients have contacted me to work on a variety of symptoms e.g. anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma/PTSD and complex trauma/PTSD, etc. - see my website for a comprehensive list.

I work with individuals (16 years old and older), couples and groups, and offer short, medium, and long term/open ended counselling or psychotherapy treatments. I also work with counsellors and psychotherapists, in training or qualified, as Clinical Supervisor.

I am specialised in Advanced Trauma Treatment (Sensorimotor Level 1) and in Developmental and Relational Trauma Treatment (Sensorimotor Level 2).

I hold UKCP full clinical accreditation (Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy College) and am a BACP Registered Member, and I abide to their respective codes of conduct - you can find them at BACP Ethical Framework and UKCP Code of Ethics.

I have been trained Integratively, in various therapeutic approaches, which allows me to tailor therapy to your needs, preferences, and personality. My primary training is in Relational Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy (MSc, Diploma and Certified Transactional Analyst in Psychotherapy-CTA-P). Subsequently, I trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (Level 1 and Level 2) and EMDR. I also hold a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and am a Master NLP Practitioner. I am currently enrolled in a Clinical Psychology degree.

In my Mindfulness and Body-informed practice, I integrate psychotherapeutic elements of several modalities including Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy (Humanistic), Relational Psychoanalysis, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Internal Family System (IFS) parts work, EMDR, Cognitive Behavioural approaches.

I formulate a tailored therapeutic plan for each of my counselling and psychotherapy clients. My therapeutic plans flexibly allow to process any issues client bring from session to session, or from moment to moment, as this is one of the ways the unconscious manifests itself.

My practice is guided by the Relational Transactional Analysis Principles and by the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Guiding Principles which can be found on the “Guiding principles of my practice” page.

If you are curious about how what I offer might suit you, please contact me to arrange an initial session where we can discuss your needs and decide if we want to work together. Only for clients who contact me via this website, I offer an initial complimentary 20-minute consultation.

I hope you appreciate what I offer. However, if you don’t choose me, please remember to check that like me your therapist is suitably qualified, belongs to a professional body, adheres to a code of ethics, and is properly insured.

Your choice of a therapist is a major decision. During treatment you will talk about personal issues and experiences, perhaps for the first time or in a way you have never done with anyone else in your life, and you need to feel that you will be able to do this with the therapist you choose. I have your best interest at heart - we agree from time to time what to focus on - and will put all my knowledge and therapeutic/personal skills to your service.

I am grateful for the time you are spending reading my website content, and I would be happy to hear from you.

I wish you all the best for your healing journey!

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
