About me

A WARM WELCOME AWAITS

If you feel ready to take the first step towards a better way of living and a more fulfilling life, you’ll find a warm welcome from an experienced and fully-qualified professional in a safe, confidential, empathic and non-judgemental environment.

Based in rural Northamptonshire and within easy reach of Peterborough, Corby, Kettering and Stamford, I cater for clients of all ages, including children and young people. (I do, however, offer remote sessions by video or phone, which I feel can be just as helpful as meeting in-person.) I have a wealth of experience of working with a wide range of mental health issues and illnesses, including anxiety, stress, depression, phobias, abuse, autism, ASD, A(D)HD, bipolar affective disorder, complex trauma and PTSD.

HOW I WORK

Briefly, I'm an integrative counsellor, so can offer various approaches that fit you and your needs. At heart, I'm a humanist and person-centred, which means it's all about you – the client. We go where you want, when you want. It's your therapy, so you're the one in the driving seat.

I firmly believe that everyone has the inner strength and drive to find their own way forward, and to live their life in a more resilient and rewarding way. Sometimes, however, we all need a helping hand. And while our sessions will primarily take the form of talking therapy, I love to work creatively, using art and writing, or we can explore other creative ideas that appeal to you. As ever, the choice is yours.

THE FIRST STEPS

Admitting that you need some help – that perhaps you're overwhelmed and struggling in life – can be extremely daunting and takes courage. Any enquiries are held in the strictest confidence and you'll be thoroughly supported in these first tentative steps. Whatever is going on for you, you will never be judged; not at the start, or any other time during therapy.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

After contacting me, I usually suggest having a brief phone conversation (which is free of charge) to get more of an idea about what's going on for you. There's no pressure or obligation, but should you decide to continue, we can book a mutually convenient time for a first session – either in-person or remotely – during which we can discuss how we might be able to work together to bring about some positive change in your life.

It's also a chance for you to find out more about me and whether you think my approach will suit your needs. We can also discuss some goals and objectives, and an initial timeframe, after which we'll review progress. The most effective approach is to schedule sessions once a week on the same day and time, which also makes it easier to manage the process and our diaries!

TO A BETTER PLACE, AT YOUR PACE

It's also worth saying that therapy does not always develop as expected, or in a strictly linear pattern, so we may need to re-evaluate our approach and goals at some point. Like life, there are likely to be some some bumps along the road, but we'll seek to navigate them at your own pace and, hopefully, towards a better place.

I very much look forward to hearing from and working with you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I'm not here to diagnose, I'm here to get to know the person who is sitting in the room with me (even if this remotely), and help you identify and address issues that are preventing you from moving forward in your life. I firmly believe that we all have an innate drive to be all that we can be and that sometimes we just need a bit of a tour guide on what can sometimes feel like a magical mystery tour.
