About me

I work with adults and young people.  I have extensive experience of working with trauma.  I am client-centred  and I believe that we each have the innate ability to move forward but at times, accessing this ability can feel impossible.  Events, relationships and circumstances in life can cause anxiety and diminish our sense of personal control.   Thinking about having counselling is a major and sometimes daunting first step but is a brave move forward.

In therapy, by gaining an understanding of how we work and what may be going on for us internally can be illuminating.   I see the counselling relationship as a journey made together to explore, discover and to unearth hidden resources. Working creatively with words, art and nature can also support change and re-ignite hope.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a registered and accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I qualified with a BA (Hons) in Humanistic Counselling in 2011. I am also a qualified and experienced clinical supervisor undertaking one to one and group supervision sessions.

I have worked in the charity sector for a number of years. The focussed areas that I have worked in are sexual and domestic abuse, bereavement, and issues affecting young people.   Understanding what may be going on for us neurologically and what we can learn from our bodily reactions can be fascinating and support the counselling exploration. I find that working creatively with words or art can be helpful as it may promote a different avenue for the work.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
