About me
Hello, I'm Leah, a considered and resourceful counsellor with a caring, warm, supportive nature and a desire to help others help themselves.
I believe that often we can be out of tune with ourselves, having little time for self-reflection, not knowing ourselves, our motivations, or why we do things we do.
We can get caught up in our stories and reliving the same experiences often learnt in childhood. This can lead to feelings such as anger and frustration, being reactive, anxious, feeling stuck or unhappy.
I offer time for you to get comfortable with sharing your life.
To come and explore issues you have experienced and start to better understand and yourself and those around you. Doing this will help you to prioritise what is important to you and be less punishing on yourself or others, learning to live a life that is self-aware and ultimately more fulfilling.
I do this by offering a space;
- in which we develop a relationship in which you feel heard and understood,
- safe and not judged,
- cultivating an environment for opportunity and learning.
Training, qualifications & experience
I’m an integrative counsellor trained in Psychodynamic theory, Person Centred Approach and Cognitive Behavioural therapy which means I draw on these modalities to best suit your needs, I also believe in the benefits of somatic work (working with the body) and will provide education around this also.
All are welcome, I have experience working with all ages from 16 years to retirement and people from many cultural backgrounds, neurodiverse affirmative, LGBTQIA+ friendly.
I'm a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
