About me

It's Ok to not be OK!

Hi, I'm Kay Ledger, therapist at Amethyst Counselling, this is my own private practice, based around the Mansfield Area.

We live in a world which is constantly changing, constantly accessible to all, when do we have time to just be?

Everyone at some point in their lives will experience feelings of being overwhelmed, it may be triggered by significant or insignificant events, relationships or an overall build up of smaller issues.  It may seem daunting to seek therapy at first, however it takes bravery and determination to take that 1st step.

A little bit more about me, I'm an Integrative Counsellor with training in both Psychodynamic and Person Centered theory, as well as Clinical supervision.  My areas of experience include Primary aged children, (as I have been in education for over 20 years), adolescents, adults of all ages, as well as grief counselling.  As an integrated counsellor/therapist, my toolkit can call on many different approaches and together, find a fit for everyone's unique circumstances...1 size does not fit all!

How counselling can help.

Working together will enable an understanding of the presenting issues and how to develop your own abilities to overcome these, building inner strength and continual awareness in order to move forwards.

Each psycho-therapeutic session offers a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space in which you can discuss anything and everything, a place to just be you...

What to expect in the initial session.

A warm and friendly welcome!

Our initial session would consist of a little bit of paperwork, which would include an overview of what has brought you to counselling.  A contract which we can amend at any time.  An understanding of each other's roles within the session, how we expect to be treated etc.  Any questions that you may have. All this is within a safe space that allows you to express yourself. Hopefully, after our initial meeting you will begin to feel able to continue your journey with me.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile, if you have any queries or questions then feel free to contact me.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
