About me

Hi, my name is Kate, and I am a therapist working face-to-face offering individual therapy, couple's therapy, family therapy and ecotherapy.

I offer a non-judgemental space for you to unpack your troubles; honouring the trust you have placed in me to maintain confidentiality and safety. I provide an integrated therapeutic approach that recognises all people and their experiences are unique. My therapeutic approach is non-directive and self-paced by you, allowing the therapy to be flexible and inline with your specific needs.

I am an integrated counsellor using both person-centred theory and psychodynamic theory, which offers an insight into your past experiences and how these might be affecting you, as well as valuing you as the expert in your own life with the capacity and desire to change and grow. Therapy can help you deal with emotional distress and difficult decisions, whilst developing self-acceptance and understanding.

Couple's Therapy
Relationship therapy is a more inclusive term used to describe couple's therapy. It recognises that not everybody is in a couple relationship, and that there are many forms of relationship dynamic that exist.

Research shows that people experiencing problematic relationships are more likely to suffer from anxiety and depression, therefore it is important to understand the issues and problems that cause relationship difficulty. One of the main goals of relationship therapy is to develop effective communication. Without it people often feel unappreciated and invalidated.

Helping you reconnect can play an important part in saving a relationship, but it isn't always about staying together. Relationship therapy can also help you separate in a way that is amicable, and that limits trauma.

Family Therapy
Family therapy is often referred to as systemic therapy, as the family are part of a 'system'. Systemic therapy focuses on relationships between people, and the importance of the interrelated parts which influence the functioning of the family.

During family therapy sessions we will seek to make sense of the world through relationships, with a focus on the whole family system. By exploring relationship patterns we can understand how they impact on others, and uncover how our experiences (and the context in which we live) can shape how we think and feel about ourselves and others.

Family therapy can help:
* facilitate and improve communication
* solve challenging family issues
* improve home environment
* strengthen relationships
* strengthen the family system
* model, educate, and myth spelling

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Ecotherapy

As a seasonal psychotherapist I observe and honour the annual cycle of the seasons. This allows me to celebrate my connection with nature, and explore symbolism and meaning in personal growth and clinical practice.

Human beings are deeply intertwined with the rhythm of the land, and we can use the outward changes in nature to reflect the growth and evolution experienced in our own lives.

Living in harmony with the seasons that transform the nature around us, can help us cultivate a deeper understanding of ourselves and help us lead a more meaningful life.

Ecotherapy recognises that through our connection with natural green spaces, nature has the ability to nurture us, and we can match this healing contact by nurturing nature.

Over the last decades poor mental health and chronic stress have substantially increased across the globe, with research indicating that nature can improve mental health. By losing contact with natural ecosystems people forget about the importance of nature to well-being.

Ecotherapy includes a range of re-connective practices which reconstruct the therapeutic frame in an outdoor setting and/or utilise the natural environment. Ecotherapy strives to form a platform that provides beneficial effects for humans and for nature where both have an effect upon the other, and it is the reciprocal relational aspect that are part of the therapeutic journey.
