About me

I am an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, EMDR therapist and Clinical Supervisor.  I specialise working with trauma, all anxiety disorders and depression and aim to help get you back on track quickly.  Using both CBT and EMDR we tailor therapy to your individual needs, circumstances and goals. I am a member of BACP, BABCP and EMDR Europe and offer a safe, confidential space where there is respect, a warm understanding and sensitive encouragement to explore your problems to help develop new ways of coping.

CBT is the recommended therapy by NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence), as it is proven to be effective at treating a wide range of emotional disorders such as anxiety and depression. It looks at how our thoughts affect how we feel and how these feelings directly influence behaviour. Have you ever stopped and taken note of what you were thinking when you felt a change in mood? Have you noticed how you behaved when you felt that way? Through CBT you can gain an awareness of: Why is this happening to me, why now and why will my problems not go away? In our sessions it will be possible to teach you invaluable skills that will enable you to manage difficult emotions now and in the future.

EMDR is effective at dealing with trauma, and the treatment of choice recommended by NICE.  Therapy targets the unprocessed memories that contain the negative emotions, sensations and beliefs and allows normal processing of the memory.  This incorporates new education, skills and perspectives into the memory to enable functioning and future successes.

My experience includes a wide variety of environments in the private sector and NHS, dealing with mild-complex psychological issues. I deal with effectively with trauma, all anxiety disorders, depression, substance misuse, chronic pain and bereavement, grief and loss.  I work with and receive referrals from Bupa, AXA and Aviva health providers.

I provide therapy in a very private location, which is close to bus and train routes, with free off road parking.  Our work together will be confidential in a warm, caring, comfortable setting.  You will be given the opportunity to understand difficult emotional triggers, risk, stress and depression and find ways to achieve more clarity, balance and happiness in your life.  We will work so you really feel truly heard and understood.

I also am continually embracing new ways of working through continued professional development, to enhance my skills and clinical work.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
