About me

How can counselling help you?

Countless studies have found that speaking about and processing your emotions and difficulties to be effective in boosting one’s overall sense of wellbeing. You really don’t have to struggle alone - there is still a great deal of stigma around mental health in society, but positive health (including mental health) is a basic right owed to each and every person on this planet. So if you’re curious about how life could be improved with some support, get in touch today.

What problems can I support you with?

Whether you’ve been struggling with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, low self-confidence, binge-eating, family issues, stress, addiction or even experiencing suicidal thoughts - you don't have to suffer alone. Therapeutic counselling can provide a confidential, non-judgmental and caring space for you to explore your feelings and your present situation. Perhaps you simply want to get to know yourself a little better by looking at past experience. Let's talk and see whether you might like to work together to set you on a path to feeling better in yourself.

Together we’ll navigate your journey and aim to get to the root of what you’ve been struggling with. I’ll help you to identify healthy coping skills which work for you and support you in bolstering your emotional resilience to deal with the obstacles life inevitably deals to all of us.

My approach

I tailor my approach for each individual - and in sessions, I take an integrative and relational approach. This means that I integrate various modalities of counselling such as CBT, psychodynamic, person-centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis, with the core focus of the work being the non-judgmental and trusting relationship we develop. It is upon this solid foundation that we begin the work - with you in the driving seat.

Our sessions will be a space for you speak to me about what you choose to bring, and we will work together to help you set your own goals that in the long-run will leave you feeling happier and better wellbeing overall.

I offer individual in-person and online therapeutic counselling. I provide both long-term and short-term support, depending on your circumstances, needs and wishes. I am currently available on Fridays during the day and evenings Monday – Thursday. I encourage you to enquire about booking a consultation to discuss further about how we would work together.

What will our first session look like?

In our first session, we will go through the working agreement for our sessions – and from there we can explore what brings you to counselling and identify whether you would like to have further sessions together. The first session will be an opportunity for us to get to know one another.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

A former client, who I worked with from October 2022 to July 2023, said: “I am incredibly grateful to Josie for the transformative journey I’ve experienced since working with her, and her support has been invaluable in helping me achieve a much clearer and healthier state of mind. Josie’s compassionate and non-judgmental approach has allowed me to feel comfortable sharing my thoughts and emotions, and her guidance has helped me gain valuable insight into my own patterns and behaviours. I would recommend Josie to anyone considering counselling, and I can’t thank her enough for helping me on my journey - she has been brilliant.
