About me

Let's start with how can counselling help you.

Whether you are experiencing a sense of crisis, have a specific issue to work through, or a more general feeling of needing someone to talk to, taking some time for yourself to engage with a qualified counsellor in a safe, confidential, non-judgmental space can really help make sense of your issues. Sometimes just giving voice to worries and fears and being genuinely heard, being received with empathy can shift stuck-ness.

Therapy can be transformative, without doubt, but it is not a one-size-fits-all experience.

How I can help you.

Warm, empathic, experienced and good-humoured, I am a BACP-registered integrative counsellor meaning my approach draws from different models (person-centred, attachment and transactional analysis) to best fit each individual client. Together we will explore concerns, identify and gently challenge patterns, limiting beliefs and ingrained narratives to facilitate meaningful change at your own pace.

I can help with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationship and family difficulties, trauma, addiction, identity and loss. I support people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, ages, gender and neurodivergence (particularly ADHD and autistic spectrum), working inclusively and with respect.

I have particular experience with the music industry, performing arts, addiction and boarding school related issues.

Where & How?

I work with adults (18+), primarily face-to-face, from secure, comfortable therapy rooms in Brighton & Hove but I can also offer sessions in London or online (or all three if that’s what works for you)! The knowledge that a hybrid approach is available can be helpful in today’s world.

I am open to working for a fixed-term or open-ended.

Please do contact me to arrange a free 20-minute telephone appointment. During this initial consultation, I can answer queries you may have, we can discuss your concerns and goals for therapy, and explore how I can help you to achieve these goals, if you wish.

Training, qualifications & experience

As a qualified Integrative Counsellor, I draw primarily from my training in person-centred, attachment theory and transactional analysis therapeutic models

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within their robust ethical and professional standards - a reassuring kitemark of good practice.

I am committed to ongoing professional development via engagement in supervision, workshops, conferences and staying up to date with the latest research and therapeutic initiatives. Recent additional training has included Boarding School Syndrome (working with trauma experienced by ex-boarders) and Gaming and Gambling Addiction.

As well as my private practice, I am a counsellor for young people in music and the performing arts and an assessor for a local charity providing low-cost, means-tested counselling.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Following a Politics degree and work on minority arts funding, I eventually found my way into the UK music and entertainment industry where I worked in both the mainstream and independent sectors for over twenty five years before taking the life-changing decision to retrain as a counsellor. During my training I worked in drug and alcohol services supporting clients with recovery from addiction. I also held placements counselling children and young people as well as music and performing arts students.

I have experience of the impacts of boarding school, ruptured attachments and addiction.
