About me

My name is Iona and I’m a qualified integrative counsellor offering individual outdoor and indoor sessions in Glasgow and online. I have a warm and compassionate approach with a passion for helping people navigate life challenges.

My practice focuses on fostering a safe, non-judgmental environment, and I believe that every person’s journey is unique. I can help you to explore and clarify your thoughts and feelings about distressing or difficult and powerful emotions that may be stopping you from moving on with your life.

My aim is to help you to explore painful issues so that you can gain a deeper self-awareness, understanding the reasons for your unhappiness so that you can overcome what is preventing you from taking control of your life and moving forward.

I have lived and worked in Glasgow for 23 years and for the majority of this time, have worked as an art therapist, creatively supporting children and adults within educational, community and social work settings, both in groups and individually.

My experience includes helping people with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, abuse, bereavement, emotional and behavioural issues, as well as individuals often feeling excluded from society due to race, age, disability and sexual orientation. I am currently working as a counsellor in private practice and as a volunteer counsellor with Epilepsy Connections.

What I offer

I work online, by telephone, in-person and I also offer Walk and Talk Therapy in parks located in Glasgow’s Southside.

Outdoor counselling benefits those who may feel a little anxious or claustrophobic in the environment of a one-on-one session in a room. Some find it easier to talk when moving, and with the added benefits of being immersed in nature.

My approach

I practice integrative counselling (this comprises person-centred, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural therapy) and I compliment this core training with creative interventions. My approach prioritises my clients’ preferences, placing them at the heart of our work together. I adopt techniques to create a personalised, holistic and creative counselling journey for my client in order to foster self-discovery and healing. Whether it’s painting, drawing, or clay work, the creative process allows us to tap into emotions, thoughts, and memories that words alone may struggle to convey.

How to get started

If you think you’d be interested working with me, please email or call me to book an initial free 20 minute chat. This will allow you to ask any questions and get a feel for whether we might be a good fit.
