About me
Do you ever feel that "four walls" are too restrictive for the difficult emotions you are carrying? I’m Iona, a qualified integrative counsellor specializing in individual outdoor Walk and Talk therapy in Pollok Park and surrounding Southside green spaces. By moving our sessions into nature, we remove the pressure of intense eye contact, creating a grounded, rhythmic environment that is particularly helpful for reducing anxiety, processing trauma, or for anyone who simply finds traditional office-based therapy daunting.
My Approach & Experience
With 26 years of experience living and working in Glasgow, I bring a warm, compassionate, and creative approach to helping people navigate life’s challenges. For the majority of my career, I have worked as an Art Therapist, supporting children and adults within educational, community, and social work settings.
My practice focuses on fostering a safe, non-judgmental environment where your unique journey is respected. I can help you explore and clarify distressing or powerful emotions that may be stopping you from moving on. My aim is to help you gain a deeper self-awareness and understand the reasons for your unhappiness so that you can take control of your life and move forward.
Who I Work With
I have extensive experience helping individuals with:
• Depression, anxiety, stress and low self-esteem• Abuse and bereavement
• Emotional and behavioural issues
• Feelings of exclusion due to race, age, disability, or sexual orientation.
I also support neurodivergent (ADHD/Autism) clients with challenges such as burnout, executive functioning and sensory processing.
In addition to my work in private practice, I am a volunteer counsellor with Epilepsy Connections. While I have a passion for the outdoors, utilising the quiet riverside benches of the White Cart for mindfulness and breathwork, I also offer indoor sessions in Glasgow and online support to ensure therapy is accessible and tailored entirely to your comfort level.
What I offer
I work online, by telephone, in-person and I also offer Walk and Talk Therapy in parks located in Glasgow’s Southside.
Outdoor counselling benefits those who may feel a little anxious or claustrophobic in the environment of a one-on-one session in a room. Some find it easier to talk when moving, and with the added benefits of being immersed in nature.
My approach
I practice integrative counselling (this comprises person-centred, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural therapy) and I compliment this core training with creative interventions. My approach prioritises my clients’ preferences, placing them at the heart of our work together. I adopt techniques to create a personalised, holistic and creative counselling journey for my client in order to foster self-discovery and healing. Whether it’s painting, drawing, or clay work, the creative process allows us to tap into emotions, thoughts, and memories that words alone may struggle to convey.
