About me

At times in our lives we can all find things challenging. Sometimes we need a time and space to reflect, talk and be heard. We often need to find new ways of thinking and feeling, to gain new perspectives and move forward...

Counselling is a way for us to do this. It provides a chance for us to address these difficulties, to work on ourselves, to explore our lives and to make them better. It is an important time in our busy lives when we can help ourselves, to better understand our challenges, and to learn about what we think and feel. From this we can enhance our experiences and make positive changes.

I’m Heather, an Integrative counsellor working in private practice in Selby, North Yorkshire. I see people from the local and wider areas, and provide counselling to individual clients and offer couples counselling. I am able to offer short term counselling sessions and also work in an open-ended way.

My approach as a counsellor means I draw from Relational, Systemic and Person-Centred methods to provide a therapeutic style that can be tailored to the needs of the client. My style is warm and empathic and puts the client first. I provide a professional and respectful, safe, non-judgmental space in which to talk, explore and reflect upon thoughts and feelings, to best find ways forward through your difficulties.

My experience includes helping people with a variety of emotional and personal issues, including:

  • Stress
  • Relationships
  • Sexuality
  • Bereavement & Grief
  • Trauma
  • Self Image
  • Self Esteem
  • Life Direction
  • Emotional Support

I hold a Masters in Contemporary Relationship Studies. My past counselling experience includes providing therapy services as part of the counselling team at Ongo UK, where I helped people in the local area of South Yorkshire to find support, improve their mental health and work to alleviate social difficulties.

More recently, I enjoyed providing counselling as part of an extended NHS department at Rotherham General Hospital to help with individuals and couples after bereavement, loss, injury, trauma and challenging life events. In 2022 I became an Associate Counsellor at Invivo Therapies, an established private therapy practice based in Selby.

As a Registered Member of the BACP I work within their ethical framework for safe and professional practice. I abide by GDPR Data Protection regulations and hold an Enhanced DBS Certificate and professional indemnity insurance.

You may have had counselling before, or it may be new to you so I offer an initial consultation, with no obligation, to answer any questions you may have, explore your expectations and talk through what I can offer.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
