About me

I am a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist with fifteen years of experience in specialist NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). I trained at the Tavistock Clinic and am registered with the Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP).

I provide psychotherapeutic assessments and treatments for children and adolescents experiencing a wide range of difficulties with their mental health, emotional well-being and behaviour. As well as offering individual psychotherapy for the child or young person, I support parents and consult with schools.

My experience includes working with children and adolescents who are looked after or adopted, have experienced neglect and abuse or witnessed domestic violence, as well as those presenting with psychosomatic symptoms and attachment difficulties. I have also worked in an educational outreach service with children demonstrating challenging behaviours who are at risk of exclusion from school. I understand the complexities of neurodiversity and how everyday challenges faced by neurodivergent young people can affect their mental health.

Prior to training as a child psychotherapist, I was a qualified primary school teacher. I have a special interest in working with children of primary school age whose underlying emotional needs are impacting their behaviour, learning and relationships.

I work flexibly and adapt my approach to meet the needs of each child or young person, taking into consideration their individual differences and backgrounds. My practice is inclusive and neuro-affirming.

Further information

As a child and adolescent psychoanalytic psychotherapist, I not only consider the external factors that may impact the child or young person but pay particular attention to their perception of events, people and situations in their lives and how this affects their behaviour and ways of relating to others. Using this understanding, I can help children and young people make sense of the things they think, feel, say and do.

Children and young people are offered the opportunity to play, draw and talk, as a way of communicating. We explore together what is happening in the session and I share my understanding with them as it unfolds. It is a safe and non-judgemental space where we can wonder and think about things together.

Psychotherapy sessions are usually once a week on the same day, at the same time and in the same place. This regularity, consistency and continuity is an important part of the therapeutic work. Sessions can be more frequent if needed and treatment can be brief, short or long term.
