About me

Hello and a super warm welcome to my listing. I’m Elizabeth Paterson, a qualified therapist, and I’m here to help you.

My goal during every one of our therapy sessions, is to give you the space and support to be able to think your way through your concerns.  We will build on your understanding, self-awareness and general wellbeing to empower you to find the solutions that work best for you.

I know just how difficult it can be to adapt to all kinds of new experiences such as changing relationships with friends, family or romantic, reaching certain life milestones, shifts in career and education, and also losing people, pets and the way things used to be.

Or maybe it is change that you are looking for. Are things becoming stuck, boring, hard to maintain or unfulfilling? It can be difficult working out what change we need and how to go about it, whilst making sure we are ok as we go through it.

This world is certainly complicated at times, but a lot smoother with the right support network. I am here for you as you work things out. There may be times I offer insights, help reveal your blind spots, uncover the coping mechanisms you use, help you understand attachment and relationship styles and also consider helpful and unhelpful conditions of worth.

Throughout our counselling appointments, I will listen with enhanced care and supply you with an abundance of unconditional specialised support. I have many years of experience and training that has honed my skills to be a safe and highly beneficial therapist .

You may decide to spend time unpicking your past, deepening your understanding and self-compassion. Reflecting this way can be a really helpful tool in building resilience and confidence to improve your wellbeing. Looking back can sometimes feel a little daunting, so rest assured I will help you manage this process by setting a pace that suits you and promoting some useful coping strategies and developing a self-care package.

Alongside this, or alternatively, you may be interested in realigning yourself with your current needs. Working in the here and now allows us to acknowledge and accurately identify our emotions more deeply and learn to hold them. This can lead to personal growth and self-acceptance and perhaps drawing closer our ideal self to our self-image.

Together we can improve your wellbeing, connect with me to find out more.

Bring your whole self
Your individuality is openly welcomed here. If you find it helpful, we can explore how your personal experiences intersect with your identity, including gender, sexual and relationship diversity, social background, age, religion, ethnicity, ability, neurodiversity, health, heritage, education, and political beliefs. In other words, you can bring your whole self.

Online
Online therapy is a real strength of mine. I’ve done extensive training to make sure I provide you with counselling that gives you all the benefits of traditional therapy but with the addition of convenience to your lifestyle.
Check out the different types and my tips for online therapy on my website ElizabethPaterson.co.uk,  plus loads of info on how I keep you safe and secure.

Outdoor
Outdoor therapy is a highly intuitive and effective way to use the environment to gain new perspectives. It can be really useful for processing difficult emotions.
We can walk and talk, sit on a bench, or be creative in the outside space.
I offer this as a bespoke service, with your comfort in mind, and may cost more than online sessions.

Starting therapy

You can email, call, text me or fill in the contact form here to start therapy with me.

Feel free to ask me any questions you have. We can arrange a free 15 minute chat to see if we are a good fit too.

From there, I email out some paperwork that explains some more about how we can work together and there is a form for you to fill in.

Then we find a time that suits you for the therapy to start.

First sessions often involve getting to know each other a little more, and about why you are here and what you would like. We work on setting a pace that feels right for you, with no assumptions. This is the unique space, just for you to be you. I will hold you safely.

Please contact me using the form below or visit my website www.ElizabethPaterson.Co.Uk for more information.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
