About me

You might be holding things together on the outside, while underneath it all feels a bit heavy.

I’m Beth Paterson, a BACP-accredited therapist offering online therapy across the UK, from my bases in Leeds and East London. I work with adults who often feel they're carrying more than anyone realises. You might be dealing with a difficult relationship, questioning who you are or where you're going, feeling worn out from constantly adapting to other people, or simply wondering why life feels harder than it seems to for everyone else.

Therapy with me is a chance to slow things down and have some space to work out what's really going on - without needing to have it all figured out first. We can talk about what's been happening, what's on your mind, and the things that might be difficult to put into words elsewhere.

I offer an inclusive, affirming space where you don't have to hide parts of yourself. I have a particular interest in neurodiversity, gender and relationship diversity, and LGBTQ+ experiences, alongside my wider work with anxiety, burnout, relationships, self-esteem and life changes.

I don't believe people are broken or need fixing. Often, the ways we cope have developed for good reasons. It can be helpful to understand why we do the things we do, especially when something that once helped us is no longer working so well. Therapy can give you the time and space to notice these things and work out what you want to do differently, if anything.

If something here has resonated with you, I'd love to hear from you. I currently have some availability for new clients, including weekday afternoon and evening appointments. I offer a free 15-minute introductory chat so we can have a proper chat, get a feel for each other and see whether working together feels right, with no pressure or obligation.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
