About me
My name is Lena and I am an accredited psychotherapist specialising in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of anxiety and mood-related disorders. I have extensive experience in the treatment of people with trauma (developmental, complex, relational or single-event trauma), addictions, and personality disorders.
I am accredited with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS). I am also an EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner.
I have several years experience of working with adults in various different settings, including the NHS psychological therapies service (IAPT), prison settings, drug and alcohol services and private practice. I have also worked in mental health services abroad.
In my practice I draw from a wide range of modalities and develop individualised treatment plans depending on my clients needs and goals.
I often use CBT interventions for individuals with anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, OCD, depression, low self-esteem, stress etc . Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is based on the concept that thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and behaviours are interconnected and that someone can be trapped into a vicious cycle. It can help the individuals break this cycle and manage their own problems by changing the way they think and behave. This can improve the way they feel. CBT can help people deal with their problems in a more positive way. It is time-limited, structured and problem-based.
I may also use Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR), a structured therapy initially developed for the treatment of PTSD, but also effective for the treatment of other issues, such as OCD, phobias, chronic pain etc. EMDR focuses directly on the distressing memories and is intended to change the way they are stored in the brain, thus reducing the problematic symptoms (thoughts, feelings, behaviours, bodily symptoms). I am also fully trained in Attachment-Focused EMDR which is for individuals who have experienced developmental trauma and non-secure attachment.
I often use Schema Therapy or Dialectical Behaviour Therapy which are particularly effective for people with long standing difficulties and personality disorders.
When you come to a therapy session my primary goal is to make you feel welcome and comfortable to share your story. I want to provide you with a space where you can feel listened to, accepted and understood. The essence of my work is to help you explore, understand and manage the difficulties you are going through and equip you with tools and resources for when times are challenging. I make every effort to ensure that my services are of the highest quality.
I work mainly on a 1:1 basis and offer short- and long-term psychotherapy for a wide range of issues, from day to day worries to complex psychological conditions.
