About me

Work related stress, redundancy, relationship breakdown, bereavement, ADHD, abuse, trauma, to name a few of life's challenges that can lead to anxiety, depression, low self esteem, negative thoughts, poor sleep and eating patterns. It can be an unsettling thought to share your experiences with someone you have not met before, but I have a calm, down to earth approach to my counselling work which helps to provide, a safe, confidential space for you to be, to build trust and explore how we can work together to make positive change.

I will listen without judgement, and work at a pace that is right for you, so that you are heard. I will assist you to identify unhelpful patterns of behaviour, explore why you might use them, and the theory behind them so that you better understand what is happening to you. We can set goals for the future to assist you when the counselling work ends.

Accessing counselling does not have to be daunting. It is important that you find the right counsellor for you, we are all different.

I worked as a counsellor for an emergency service and the above issues were very common, and often related to anxiety, depression, work related stress, and trauma. I also worked in a service providing counselling to people who had suffered physical, emotional and financial abuse, and sometimes all these. The feelings of shame, self blame and low self esteem could often be debilitating. Why should people carry these feelings when its not their fault? They don’t have to if they get the help they need.

Accessing the help you need, can be done in 4 easy steps:·

 - Email or ring me to arrange a free 20 minute consultation
 - Discuss what counselling is, and what you hope to get from it
 - See if I am the right counsellor for you
 - Book your first session if I am

Training, qualifications & experience

It is important that you know I am a Registered Member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) which guides how I work. I have a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, a Certificate in Trauma Treatments, Bereavement Training, etc.

I have worked as a counsellor for an emergency service, domestic abuse service, and young people’s charity. I have worked with clients trying to cope with trauma, physical and emotional abuse, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, ADHD, Anger issues, redundancy, and work-related stress.

I apply psychodynamic theory and a range of tools and techniques to look at past experiences, and what might be impacting you now. But mainly I listen, I don’t judge and simply allow you the space to be heard.

I have also worked as a learning and development coach and use coaching skills to look for a positive way forward that will hopefully give you the resilience and autonomy to cope after the counselling work ends.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
